Case report: Synchronous tumors of the female reproductive tract in systemic lupus erythematosus: report of two cases and review of the literature
ConclusionThe presence of synchronous tumors of the reproductive tract in patients with SLE is uncommon and can be easily disregarded. It is crucial to highlight that SLE patients with multiple primary malignancies exhibit notable late-stage presentation at the time of diagnosis, inadequate disease-free survival, poor overall survival, rapid progression rates, and mortality. Consequently, greater awareness must be raised regarding synchronous reproductive tract tumors in patients with SLE. Regular comprehensive cancer screening and management should be implemented for individuals diagnosed with SLE. (Source: Frontiers in Oncology)

Efficacy of pembrolizumab in advanced cancer of the vulva: a systematic review and single-arm meta-analysis
This study suggests that one-third of women with advanced or recurrent vulvar cancer may, without the influence of PD-L1 status, benefit from pembrolizumab treatment despite a decline in both PFS and OS at 12 months. These findings provide support for considering pembrolizumab in the treatment paradigm for this specific subset of cancer patients.Systematic review registrationhttps://www.crd.york.ac.uk/prospero/, identifier CRD42023391888 (Source: Frontiers in Oncology)

Vulvar cancer incidence and net survival in Sweden 1960 to 2019: A population ‐based national study
ConclusionsThe age-standardized incidence of vulvar cancer cases in Sweden was stable between 1960 and 2019. During the study period, an increase in adenocarcinoma and a decrease in malignant melanoma cases was found. Five-year net survival increased by 20 percent units during the study period. For squamous cell carcinoma, an increased age-specific 5-year net survival was observed for all age groups, apart for women aged ≥85. (Source: Acta Obstetricia et Gynecologica Scandinavica)

“Evaluation of the impact of a protocol for immediate vulvar reconstruction after vulvectomy”
This study, five years after its introduction, assesses the impact of this intervention on the postoperative evolution of vulvectomy patients. In January 2017 we introduced a protocol for immediate vulvar reconstruction that considered four criteria of high risk for postoperative dehiscence. Effect of HPV Oncoprotein on Carbohydrate and Lipid Metabolism in Tumor Cells
This article aims to elucidate the role of Human Papillomavirus (HPV) in reshaping cellular metabolism and the application of metabolic changes in the research of related diseases. Targeting cancer metabolism may serve as an effective strategy to support traditional cancer treatments, as metabolic reprogramming is crucial for malignant transformation in cancer.PMID:38284713 | DOI:10.2174/0115680096266981231215111109 (Source: Current Cancer Drug Targets)

Use of Rectus Flaps in Reconstructive Surgery for Gynecologic Cancer
In conclusion, pelvic reconstruction with RAM/RAMP flaps, at the time of radical surgery for gynecologic cancer, is an uncommon procedure. In our case series, we had a significant complication rate with the most common being infection and necrosis. The development of a team approach, with input from services including Gynecologic Oncology and Plastic Surgery should be developed to decrease post-operative complications and improve patient outcomes.PMID:38248111 | PMC:PMC10814897 | DOI:10.3390/curroncol31010026 (Source: Current Oncology)

Case report: A kidney metastasis from vulvar squamous cell carcinoma
ConclusionAlthough renal metastasis from vulvar SCC is rare, renal metastasis should be considered for the patient with a history of vulvar cancer, whenever a mass is identified in the kidney. Timely surgical removal of renal metastasis may prolong the survival time. (Source: Frontiers in Oncology)

Surgery as primary treatment improved overall survival in vulvar squamous cancer: A single center study with 108 women
Vulvar cancer is a rare gynecological malignancy with high morbidity and mortality rates. The American incidence rate is 2.6 per 100,000 women/year, and the mortality rate is 0.5 per 100,000 women/year [1]. It is an elderly disease, although the incidence in younger groups is increasing, probably related to HPV infection [2]. The literature is scarce due to its rarity, a challenge for developing guidelines on management [3]. (Source: European Journal of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Biology)

Cancers, Vol. 16, Pages 276: Pelvic Exenteration for Recurrent Vulvar Cancer: A Retrospective Study
Björn Lampe Pelvic exenteration (PE) is one of the most radical surgical approaches. In earlier times, PE was associated with high morbidity and mortality. Nowadays, due to improved selection of suitable patients, perioperative settings, and postoperative care, patients’ outcomes have been optimized. To investigate patients’ outcomes and identify possible influencing clinical and histopathological factors, we analysed 17 patients with recurrent vulvar cancer who underwent PE in our department between 2007 and 2022. The median age was 64.9 years, with a difference of 40 years between the ...

Sentinel Lymph Node Evaluation in Early-Stage Vulvar Cancer
Opinion StatementSentinel lymph node mapping (SLNM) and dissection (SLND) should be used as an alternative to full inguinofemoral lymph node dissection (IFLND) in select patients with early-stage vulvar cancer. IFLND is associated with high postoperative complications such as wound breakdown, lymphedema, lymphocyst formation, and infection. SLND in select patients offers a safe, effective, and less morbid alternative. Candidates for SLND include patients with a unifocal vulvar tumor less than four centimeters, clinically negative lymph nodes, and no prior inguinofemoral surgeries. SLND should ideally be performed by a high...

The expression of corticotropin-releasing hormone family peptides in premalignant and malignant vulvar lesions
ConclusionsStress response system and CRH family peptides seem to have a role in inflammation maintenance and progression of vulvar premalignant lesions to malignancy. It seems that stress peptides may locally modulate the stroma through Fas/FasL upregulation, possibly contributing to vulvar cancer development. (Source: Clinical and Translational Oncology)
