Persistence of vitamin D deficiency among Italian patients with acute myocardial infarction
CONCLUSION: Vitamin D deficiency is highly prevalent and persistent in patients with AMI despite a trend towards increasing 25(OH)D concentrations over the years. The frequent lockdowns did not reduce the levels of 25(OH)D in the fourth group. Effect of preoperative vitamin D on postoperative atrial fibrillation incidence after coronary artery bypass grafting
ConclusionsOur findings revealed that high-dose vitamin D supplementation before CABG surgery significantly reduced the incidence of POAF. Endocrine and non-endocrine causes of fatigue in adults with Neurofibromatosis type 1
ConclusionsEndocrine and non-endocrine disorders were equally present in our cohort of NF1 adults with and without fatigue. This suggests that the high prevalence of fatigue in NF1 adults is not explained by these somatic disorders. An alternative explanation for fatigue might be deficits in cognitive functioning and other neuropsychological processes in NF1. Based on our results and review of the literature, we provide a clinical algorithm for the approach to fatigue in NF1 adults, including somatic and psychological assessment. CONCLUSIONS: Suppression of 24-hydroxylase provides a first line of defense against symptomatic VitD-deficiency by decreasing metabolic clearance of 1,25(OH)2D. The 1,25(OH)2D/24,25(OH)2D ratio provides a useful index of VitD status since it incorporates 24,25(OH)2D levels and therefore, provides insight into 24-hydroxylase activity.
