Potential Micronutrient Deficiencies in the First 1000 Days of Life: The Pediatrician on the Side of the Weakest
This study is to examine potential micronutrient deficiencies and any need for supplementation in children following specific diet plans in the first 1000 days of life.RECENT FINDINGS: Optimal nutrition in the first 1000 days of life has a lifelong positive impact on child development. Specific intrauterine and perinatal factors, pathological conditions, and dietary restrictions can represent potential risk factors for micronutrient deficiencies in the first 1000 days of life, which can have negative systemic consequences. Preterm and low-birth-weight infants are intrinsically at risk because of immature body systems. Chil...

Vitamin D deficiency in black women with uterine fibroids
Uterine leiomyomas are benign tumors of the uterus that are composed of smooth muscle cells and fibroblasts and are rich in extracellular matrix. Leiomyomas are often associated with pelvic pain or pressure, menorrhagia, dysmenorrhea, dyspareunia, miscarriage and infertility, and are one of the leading indications for hysterectomy. Vitamin D is a hormone with anti-proliferative and anti-fibrotic effects that have been found to inhibit the growth of human uterine leiomyoma cells. In vitro studies have shown that myometrial tissue are sensitive target organs for vitamin D, and that their cell growth is effectively inhibited ...

Association between vitamin D status, physical performance, sex, and lifestyle factors: a cross-sectional study of community-dwelling Kosovar adults aged 40  years and older
ConclusionVitamin D deficiency is highly prevalent among community-dwelling adults in Kosovo and low serum 25(OH)D has been associated with low muscle strength. This implies an urgent need for the development of comprehensive prevention strategies, focusing on pharmacological (supplementation) but also  on non-pharmacological strategies such as education, food fortification or lifestyle advices. Vitamin D nutritional status in early pregnancy and its relationship with periconceptional multiple micronutrients supplementation
CONCLUSIONS: Among women in Beijing, serum concentrations of vitamin D in early pregnancy are relatively low, and the rates of deficiency and insufficiency are high. Taking MMs during the periconceptional period could improve this situation.PMID:38494687 | DOI:10.6133/apjcn.202403_33(1).0006 (Source: Asia Pacific Journal of Clinical Nutrition)
