A Non-targeted Metabolomics Reveals Therapeutical Effect and Mechanism of Sanmiao Pill on Adjuvant-induced Arthritis Rats
Conclusion: These results indicated that RA-related biomarkers reflected the metabolic profile of AIA rats. Meanwhile, SMP could effectively treat RA mainly by reducing inflammation and regulating abnormal lipid metabolic pathways and amino acid metabolisms. It showed that metabolomics could be used to analyze the metabolic profiles involved in RA and reveal the mechanism of SMP treatment of RA.PMID:37171005 | DOI:10.2174/1381612829666230511161308 (Source: Current Pharmaceutical Design)

Harnessing the Vnn1 pantetheinase pathway boosts short chain fatty acids production and mucosal protection in colitis
Conclusion The induction of Vnn1/VNN1 during colitis in mouse and human is a compensatory mechanism to reinforce the mucosal barrier. Therefore, enhancement of vitamin B5-driven metabolism should improve mucosal healing and might increase the efficacy of anti-inflammatory therapy. (Source: Gut)

Enhanced supply of acetyl-CoA by exogenous pantothenate kinase promotes synthesis of poly(3-hydroxybutyrate)
Coenzyme A (CoA) is a carrier of acyl groups. This cofactor is synthesized from pantothenic acid in five steps. The phosphorylation of pantothenate is catalyzed by pantothenate kinase (CoaA), which is a key st... (Source: Microbial Cell Factories)

IJERPH, Vol. 20, Pages 5469: Nutrient Adequacy in Endurance Athletes
We examined if endurance athletes are meeting their nutritional requirements and if this differed by sex. Ninety-five endurance athletes (n = 95; 50.5% men; 34.9 ± 12.9 y) participated in the study. Dietary intake was evaluated using the 24 h dietary recall method. Energy and nutrient intakes were calculated using the ESHA Food Processor Diet Analysis Software and compared against reference nutrient intakes. Endurance athletes did not consume the recommended amount of energy (76.8% of athletes), carbohydrates (95.8%), linoleic acid (75.8%), α-linolenic acid (ALA) (77.9%), eicosatetraenoic and d...

Biomarker identification and pathway analysis of Astragalus membranaceus and Curcuma zedoaria couplet medicines on adenine-induced chronic kidney disease in rats based on metabolomics
Conclusion: In conclusion, AM and CZ significantly reduced renal fibrosis and inflammation in CKD rats, which may be related to the regulation of SIRT1/JNK signaling pathway. Furthermore, L-Threonine, D-pantothenic acid, and nicotinamide may be potential biomarkers for the progression and treatment of CKD. (Source: Frontiers in Pharmacology)

Brain CoA and Acetyl CoA Metabolism in Mechanisms of Neurodegeneration
AbstractThe processes of biotransformation of pantothenic acid (Pan) in the biosynthesis and hydrolysis of CoA, key role of pantothenate kinase (PANK) and CoA synthetase (CoASY) in the formation of the priority mitochondrial pool of CoA, with a high metabolic turnover of the coenzyme and limited transport of Pan across the blood-brain barrier are considered. The system of acetyl-CoA, a secondary messenger, which is the main substrate of acetylation processes inclu ding formation of N-acetyl aspartate and acetylcholine, post-translational modification of histones, predetermines protection of the neurons against degenerati...

Large-scale genetic characterization of the model sulfate-reducing bacterium, Desulfovibrio vulgaris Hildenborough
Sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) are obligate anaerobes that can couple their growth to the reduction of sulfate. Despite the importance of SRB to global nutrient cycles and their damage to the petroleum industry, our molecular understanding of their physiology remains limited. To systematically provide new insights into SRB biology, we generated a randomly barcoded transposon mutant library in the model SRB Desulfovibrio vulgaris Hildenborough (DvH) and used this genome-wide resource to assay the importance of its genes under a range of metabolic and stress conditions. In addition to defining the essential gene set of DvH,...
