Terahertz reconfigurable metasensor for specific recognition multiple and mixed chemical substances based on AIT fingerprint enhancement
Talanta. 2023 Nov 25;269:125481. doi: 10.1016/j.talanta.2023.125481. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTTerahertz (THz) fingerprint metasensing is an effective method to identify chemical substances in a rapid and non-destructive way. Currently, two main principles are used in THz metasensing: the change of the real part of permittivity causing the dip resonance frequency deviation, and the fingerprint peak of the imaginary part of permittivity causing the dip resonance splitting (absorption induced transparency, AIT). Most previous work investigated AIT detection for only single chemical substance. The suitable AIT metasensor ...

Chiral Supramolecular Organogel Constructed Using Riboflavin and Melamine: Its Application in Photo-Catalyzed Colorimetric Chiral Sensing and Enantioselective Adsorption
Chemistry. 2023 Nov 27:e202303353. doi: 10.1002/chem.202303353. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe synthesis of a chiral supramolecular organogel via the hierarchical helical self-assembly of optically active riboflavin and melamine derivatives is described herein. Owing to the photocatalysis of riboflavin and the supramolecular chirality induced in the helically stacked riboflavin/melamine complex, the gel is observed to act as a light-stimulated chiral sensor of optically active alcohols by detecting the change in color from yellow to green. The gel also served as an efficient chiral adsorbent, enabling optical resolution...

Riboflavin-responsive lipid-storage myopathy in elderly patients
We describe three elderly patients with riboflavin-responsive lipid-storage myopathy. All three patients (aged 67 –71 years on first examination) had subacute onset of neck extensors and proximal limb weakness progressing to inability to rise from a sitting position or to walk. Muscle biopsies showed vacuoles with lipid content, mainly in type 1 fibers. Genetic analysis failed to identify any pathogenic var iant in one patient, identified a heterozygous variant of uncertain significance c.812 A > G; p.Tyr271Cys in the ETFDH gene in the second patient, and revealed a heterozygote likely pathogenic variant c.1286-2...

The kynurenine pathway of tryptophan metabolism in abdominal migraine in children - A therapeutic potential?
CONCLUSIONS: In conclusion, controlled placebo-based clinical trials with dietary manipulation to adjust the amount of the product of the KYN pathway of TRP metabolism are justified in children and adolescents with AM, especially those with coexisting obesity. Further preclinical studies are needed to establish details of these trials.PMID:37984006 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejpn.2023.11.001 (Source: European Journal of Paediatric Neurology)

Riboflavin-loaded carbon cloth aids the anaerobic digestion of cow dung by promoting direct interspecies electron transfer
In this study, carbon cloth loaded with riboflavin (carbon cloth-riboflavin) was added into an anaerobic digester treating cow dung. The carbon cloth-riboflavin reactor showed a better performance than other two reactors. The metagenomic analysis revealed that Methanothrix on the surface of the carbon cloth predominantly utilized the CO2 reduction for methane production, further enhanced after riboflavin addition, while Methanothrix in bulk sludge were using the acetate decarboxylation pathway. Furthermore, the carbon cloth-riboflavin enriched various major methanogenic pathways and activated a large number of enzymes asso...

Impacts of high-dose riboflavin on cytotoxicity, antioxidant, growth, reproductive gene expressions, and genotoxicity in the rainbow trout gonadal cells
This report aimed to examine the actions of riboflavin on cell viability, the transcriptional expressions of antioxidant enzyme (gsr and gpx1a), growth (gh1, igf1, and igf2), the reproductive (bol) genes and DNA damage in the rainbow trout gonad cells (RTG-2) for 48 h. All concentrations of riboflavin (3.125, 6.25, 12.5, 25, 50, and 100 μM) significantly reduced the RTG-2 cell viability. Riboflavin (LD50: 12.5 μM) significantly downregulated the transcriptional expressions of gpx1a, igf1, and bol genes, while it non-significantly upregulated or downregulated the transcriptional expression of gsr, igf2, and gh1 genes in t...
