GSE233406 Analysis of Reproducibility and Robustness of a Renal Proximal Tubule Microphysiological System OrganoPlate ® 3-lane 40 for In Vitro Studies of Pharmacokinetics and Toxicodynamics
This study used OrganoPlate ® 3-lane 40, a microfluidics-based model of the renal proximal tubule and compared it to multi-well static cultures using a number of human renal proximal tubule epithelial cell (RPTEC) types. We followed previously published protocols but adapted them to the varying cell proliferation rates of dif ferent RPTECs; primary cells required up to 7 days in culture before experiments, while some immortalized cell lines could be used in 3 days.Function of various tubule-specific transporters, permeability of small molecules (cisplatin, tenofovir and perfluorooctanoic acid) and fluorescent dextrans (60...

Fanconi Syndrome in Patients With Human Immunodeficiency Virus Treated With Tenofovir-Based Antiretroviral Therapy: A Systematic Literature Review
CONCLUSIONS: Occurrence of FS is low in patients with HIV treated with tenofovir-based regimens. Concomitant use of ritonavir may increase risk of FS. TAF may be a safer alternative than TDF in terms of nephrotoxicity.PMID:37932920 | DOI:10.1177/10600280231206703 (Source: The Annals of Pharmacotherapy)

Comparison of Dolutegravir+Lamivudine and Bictegravir/Emtricitabine/Tenofovir alafenamide in antiretroviral therapy-na ïve patients infected with HIV: preliminary results from clinical practice
CONCLUSIONS: Both optimization strategies showed high tolerability in antiretroviral therapy-naïve patients, with no differences in virological efficacy; however, BIC/FTC/TAF may be related to the risk of weight gain risk. Further research is required to evaluate this problem.PMID:37927079 | DOI:10.1080/14787210.2023.2279719 (Source: Expert Review of Anti-Infective Therapy)

Statutory health insurance-covered pre-exposure prophylaxis in Germany: changing trends in nationwide tenofovir disoproxil/emtricitabine prescriptions during the COVID-19 pandemic
Conclusion: Introduction of SHI-covered PrEP resulted in a doubling of TDF/FTC-prescriptions nationwide in the first month alone. A drop in prescriptions was most apparent after the first lockdown, and particularly affected PrEP initiations, possibly due to reduced healthcare access and behavioural changes. Ongoing monitoring of TDF/FTC-prescriptions is needed to safeguard access to preventative care such as PrEP and particularly PrEP initiation during public health crises like COVID-19. A Very Young Adult Female Patient with Hepatitis B Flare: A Case Report
This study aims to present a case of chronic hepatitis B flare in a very young adult patient. An 18-year-old previously healthy female presented with jaundice developing in one week, following the previous complaints of nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, loss of appetite, and tiredness for about three months. The patient had no risk factors for getting HBV infection, but her HBsAg-positive mother was probably an inactive HBV carrier. The hepatitis B serological testing revealed HBsAg positivity, anti-HBs seronegativity, HBeAg positivity, anti-HBe seronegativity, anti-HBc IgM seronegativity, and high levels of HBV DNA detect...

Efficacy and safety profiles of dolutegravir plus lamivudine vs. bictegravir/emtricitabine/tenofovir alafenamide in therapy-na ïve adults with HIV-1
CONCLUSIONS: In this real-life study, B/F/TAF led to a faster viral decline and fewer DRAEs compared to DTG+3TC. No significant difference was observed in the TND rate at week 48, regardless of baseline VL and CD4+ cell count. CD4+ recovery was superior for B/F/TAF in participants with high VL. The DTG + 3TC regimen had less impact on metabolic changes than B/F/TAF.PMID:37914678 | DOI:10.1097/CM9.0000000000002907 (Source: Chinese Medical Journal)
