Acute facial neuralgia related to initiation of emtricitabine/tenofovir for HIV PrEP: a report of two cases in a PrEP demonstration trial
Zhuoheng Yin, Rayner Kay Jin Tan, Joseph D. Tucker, Quanmin Li, Renslow Sherer, Linghua Li, Weiming Tang - Volume 21(1) HIV PrEP is widely recommended as a crucial measure for HIV prevention. In a demonstration trial in China, this article highlights two cases where facial neuralgia emerged as an unexpected side effect of PrEP medication, not previously mentioned in official prescribing information. These findings deepen our understanding of the potential side effects of emitricitabine/tenofovir disoproxil fumarate use and provide empirical evidence to enhance PrEP implementation further and address the challenges that may...

Bone Metabolism in Men who Live with HIV Aged 50 years and Over: Impact of Infection Duration
CONCLUSION: Compared to studies conducted on the general population, the prevalence of osteoporosis in male PLWH aged 50 years and older was two times higher. The limited effect of the duration of ART use on low BMD may be due to the patients' histories of replacement therapy. Therefore, to eliminate the negative effects of ART on BMD, it may be beneficial to start replacement therapy when necessary.PMID:38279729 | DOI:10.2174/011570162X273667231213061301 (Source: Current HIV Research)

Viruses, Vol. 16, Pages 194: Simplified Criteria to Assess Long-Term Antiviral Treatment Indication in Chronic HBV-Infected Pregnant Women in Cambodia
hun Chantana Yay Denis Laurent Samsorphea Chhun Laurence Borand Olivier Segeral Pregnant women identified to carry hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) should be linked to care for the determination of the need for long-term antiviral therapy (LTT). We assessed the performance of simplified criteria, free from HBV DNA quantification, to select women eligible for LTT using different international guidelines as a reference. A retrospective analysis of HBV-infected pregnant women enrolled in the phase 4 ANRS TA-PROHM study was conducted in Cambodia. Sensitivity, specificity, and AUROC were computed to compare thr...

Development of tenofovir monobenzyl ester phosphonoamidate prodrugs with improved anti-hepatitis B virus activity and intrahepatic tenofovir enrichment
Bioorg Med Chem. 2024 Feb 1;99:117607. doi: 10.1016/j.bmc.2024.117607. Epub 2024 Jan 18.ABSTRACTVarious tenofovir (TFV) prodrugs have been developed by introducing masking groups to the hydroxyls of the monophosphonate group to enhance intestinal absorption efficiency and therapeutic effects. However, the reported TFV prodrugs have drawbacks such as low bioavailability, systemic toxicity caused by their breakdown in non-targeted tissues, and potential low intracellular conversion efficiency. In the present study, we developed a class of TFV monobenzyl ester phosphonoamidate prodrugs without substitutions on the benzene rin...
