Comparison of Metabolic Effects of Three Different Treatment Combinations with Retrospective Real-life Data in People Living with HIV
CONCLUSION: All treatment groups showed a decrease in HIV-RNA and an increase in CD4 at the end of one year. While CD4 elevation is lower in EFV recipients than in integrase inhibitor (INSTI) recipients, weight gain is higher in INSTI recipients. While the lipid profile was more positively affected in the 3TC/DTG group, lipid profiles were more negatively affected in the EVG/c/TAF/FTC group, although liver and kidney functions were preserved.PMID:37990894 | DOI:10.2174/011570162X266922231107094649 (Source: Current HIV Research)

Population Pharmacokinetics of Tenofovir Alafenamide Fumarate and Its Metabolite Tenofovir in Healthy Chinese Volunteers
This study aimed to establish the prodrug –metabolite population pharmacokinetic (PK) model for TAF and its metabolite tenofovir (TFV) in healthy Chinese volunteers and evaluate the factors affecting the PK. Using 1043 TAF and 1198 TFV plasma sample concentrations collected from 67 healthy volunteers, a population PK model was developed u sing the nonlinear mixed-effects model. The 1-compartment model containing 4 transit compartments and the 2-compartment model accurately described the PK of TAF and TFV, respectively. Covariates such as meal state and sex were found to be statistically significant and potentially clinic...

Despite sexual harassment shadow, biologist David Sabatini lands job at top Czech institute
David Sabatini, the high-flying biologist who lost positions at three prominent U.S. institutions after breaching sexual misconduct policies, last month began a new job as a senior scientist at the Institute for Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry Prague (IOCB), a powerful arm of the Czech Academy of Sciences. The hire has divided Czech scientists and is likely to ignite debate about whether and when institutions should give second chances to those who commit sexual misconduct. “I am very honored to join IOCB and excited to be able to again mentor younger scientists, contribute to biological research, and participat...

Efficacy and safety of tenofovir disoproxil fumarate versus entecavir in the treatment of acute-on-chronic liver failure with hepatitis B: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Oral nucleoside (acid) analogues (NAs) are recommended for patients with acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF) associated with hepatitis B virus (HBV-ACLF). The efficacy and safety of tenofovir (TDF) and entec... (Source: BMC Gastroenterology)

Renal and bone side effects of long-term use of entecavir, tenofovir disoproxil fumarate, and tenofovir alafenamide fumarate in patients with Hepatitis B: a network meta-analysis
Nucleoside analogues are currently applied as a first-line treatment for chronic hepatitis B (CHB) patients. However, the long-term effects of this type of treatment on kidney and bone tissue need to be furthe... (Source: BMC Gastroenterology)

GSE233406 Analysis of Reproducibility and Robustness of a Renal Proximal Tubule Microphysiological System OrganoPlate ® 3-lane 40 for In Vitro Studies of Pharmacokinetics and Toxicodynamics
This study used OrganoPlate ® 3-lane 40, a microfluidics-based model of the renal proximal tubule and compared it to multi-well static cultures using a number of human renal proximal tubule epithelial cell (RPTEC) types. We followed previously published protocols but adapted them to the varying cell proliferation rates of dif ferent RPTECs; primary cells required up to 7 days in culture before experiments, while some immortalized cell lines could be used in 3 days.Function of various tubule-specific transporters, permeability of small molecules (cisplatin, tenofovir and perfluorooctanoic acid) and fluorescent dextrans (60...
