Evaluation of cytomegalovirus infection/disease in IgG positive renal transplantation recipients on valaciclovir prophylaxis
Conclusions: Valaciclovir may be preferred in prophylaxis instead of valganciclovir as we used in our study since valganciclovir has prolonged treatment time, rapid development of drug resistance, drug toxicity and high cost. (Source: The Journal of Infection in Developing Countries)

Current scenario and future applicability of antivirals against herpes zoster
Korean J Pain. 2022 Dec 27. doi: 10.3344/kjp.22391. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTHerpes zoster (HZ) is a common disease in the aging population and immunocompromised individuals, with a lifetime risk of 20%-30% that increases with age. HZ is caused by reactivation of the varicella-zoster virus (VZV), which remains latent in the spinal dorsal root ganglia and cranial sensory ganglia after resolution of the primary VZV infection. The main focus of HZ management is rapid recovery from VZV infection as well as the reduction and prevention of zoster-associated pain (ZAP) and postherpetic neuralgia (PHN). The use of antivirals ...

Overweight and Obesity as Risk Factors for Recurrent Herpetic Stromal Keratitis during Long-Term Antiviral Prophylaxis
In conclusion, overweight and obesity were revealed as risk factors for HSK recurrence in patients receiving long-term antiviral prophylaxis. Further studies are needed to determine the appropriate acyclovir concentrations in the blood or aqueous humour in order to achieve desirable prophylactic effects, especially in the overweight and obese patients.PMID:36560816 | PMC:PMC9781937 | DOI:10.3390/v14122812 (Source: Herpes)

HIV-associated multiple intracranial aneurysms and stroke in an adult patient: successful treatment with a combination of glucocorticoid and antiviral agents
AbstractA 35-year-old Iranian man with an 18-year history of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection developed sudden left-sided hemiparesis and mild dysarthria. Based on laboratory results, brain and neck computerized tomography angiography (CTA), echocardiography, hypercoagulability tests, and vasculitis tests, the patient was diagnosed with a stroke with multiple intracranial aneurysms secondary to HIV. Cerebral aneurysms and stroke are uncommon in HIV-infected patients, and the aneurysms ’ exact cause and risk factors are unknown. There is currently no effective regimen or definitive treatment for HIV-associated...
