Multiple ocular manifestations in a patient diagnosed with herpes zoster ophthalmicus: case report
Conclusions: Final visual acuity for the left eye remained 1 despite numerous manifestations of the disease. Abbreviations: VZV = Varicella-zoster virus, BCVA = best-corrected visual acuity, OU = both eyes, OD = right eye, OS = left eye, IOP = intraocular pressure, NCT = non-contact tonometer, ZVX = Zostavax vaccine.PMID:38617727 | PMC:PMC11007559 | DOI:10.22336/rjo.2024.16 (Source: Herpes)

Valacyclovir as Etiology for Drug Reaction with Eosinophilia and Systemic Symptoms: A Case Report
CONCLUSION: Valacyclovir is a rare but important cause of DRESS. A thorough history of the illness timeline and a high index of clinical suspicion is required for the prompt diagnosis and treatment of the condition. Apart from withdrawal of the offending agent, a slow prolonged taper of steroids is the current recommended treatment as rapid reduction of steroid dosage can lead to a relapse of cutaneous and systemic symptoms.PMID:38596552 | PMC:PMC11000847 | DOI:10.55729/2000-9666.1248 (Source: Herpes)

Ultrathin organosiloxane membrane for precision organic solvent nanofiltration
Nat Commun. 2024 Mar 30;15(1):2800. doi: 10.1038/s41467-024-47115-9.ABSTRACTPromising advances in membrane technology can lead to energy-saving and eco-friendly solutions in industrial sectors. This work demonstrates a highly selective membrane with ultrathin and highly interconnected organosiloxane polymer nanolayers by initiated chemical vapor deposition to effectively separate solutes within the molecular weight range of 150-300 g mol-1. We optimize the poly(1,3,5,7-tetravinyl-1,3,5,7-tetramethylcyclotetrasiloxane) membrane by adjusting both the thickness of the selective layer and the pore sizes of its support membrane...

Urinary Viral Spectrum in Patients with Interstitial Cystitis/Bladder Pain Syndrome and the Clinical Efficacy of Valacyclovir Treatment
Biomedicines. 2024 Feb 26;12(3):522. doi: 10.3390/biomedicines12030522.ABSTRACTOur previous study showed that the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) may be the etiology for some patients with interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome (IC/BPS); hence, the current study aimed to investigate the urinary viral spectrum in patients with IC/BPS and the clinical efficacy of valacyclovir. Twenty-eight patients were prospectively enrolled for valacyclovir 500 mg twice a day for 4 weeks. Urine samples were collected from IC/BPS patients and 30 controls. The primary outcome was the difference in the visual analog scale (VAS) pain score, and ...

Associations between Different Antivirals and Hospital acquired Acute Kidney Injury in Adults with Herpes Zoster
CONCLUSIONS: Among antiviral therapies for herpes zoster, we found different risks of hospital acquired AKI among the patients receiving different antivirals, in particular, those administered intravenously. Among intravenous antivirals, acyclovir was associated with highest risk of hospital acquired AKI, followed by penciclovir/ganciclovir and foscarnet. Confirmation studies with large samples from other populations are warranted.PMID:38527975 | DOI:10.2215/CJN.0000000000000452 (Source: Herpes)
