Bell Palsy: Facts and Current Research Perspectives
CNS Neurol Disord Drug Targets. 2023 Mar 21. doi: 10.2174/1871527322666230321120618. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBell palsy is a non-progressive neurological condition characterized by the acute onset of ipsilateral seventh cranial nerve paralysis. People who suffer from this type of facial paralysis develop a droop on one side of their face, or sometimes both. This condition is distinguished by a sudden onset of facial paralysis accompanied by clinical features such as mild fever, postauricular pain, dysgeusia, hyperacusis, facial changes, and drooling or dry eyes. Epidemiological evidence suggests that 15 to 23 people ...

Genital Herpes Simplex Virus Type 2 Suppression With Valacyclovir Is Not Associated With Changes in Nugent Score or Absolute Abundance of Key Vaginal Bacteria
CONCLUSIONS: Short-term HSV-2 suppression with valacyclovir did not significantly affect the Nugent score or the vaginal microbiome despite potent suppression of HSV-2 shedding.PMID:36949872 | PMC:PMC10026542 | DOI:10.1093/ofid/ofad099 (Source: Herpes)

Clinical features and prognostic factors in adults with viral meningitis
Brain. 2023 Mar 16:awad089. doi: 10.1093/brain/awad089. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTClinical features applicable to the entire spectrum of viral meningitis are limited, and prognostic factors for adverse outcomes are undetermined. This nationwide population-based prospective cohort study included all adults with presumed and microbiologically confirmed viral meningitis in Denmark from 2015 until 2020. Prognostic factors for an unfavourable outcome (Glasgow Outcome Scale score of 1-4) 30 days after discharge were examined by modified Poisson regression. In total, 1066 episodes of viral meningitis were included, yielding a...

Comparative efficacy of antiviral agents for prevention and management of herpes labialis: a systematic review and network meta-analysis
CONCLUSION: NMA highlighted that several agents were effective in the management of herpes labialis among which the combination of oral valacyclovir with topical clobetasol therapy was the most effective in reducing the time to heal. However, further studies are required to determine which intervention is the most effective in preventing the recurrence of herpes labialis.PMID:36914303 | DOI:10.1016/j.jebdp.2022.101778 (Source: Herpes)
