Post-Radiotherapy Dysphagia in Head and Neck Cancer: Current Management by Speech-Language Pathologists
Opinion statementDysphagia, difficulty in eating and drinking, remains the most common side effect of radiotherapy treatment for head and neck cancer (HNC) with devastating consequences for function and quality of life (QOL). Over the past decade, 5-year survival has improved due to multiple factors including treatment advances, reduction in smoking, introduction of the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine and more favourable prognosis of HPV-related cancers. Increased prevalence of HPV-positive disease, which tends to affect younger individuals, has led to an elevated number of people living for longer with the sequelae of ...

Cerebellar symptomatology following Covid-19 vaccination reveals breast cancer
Background: There are various Covid-19 post-vaccination neurological disorders reported but they are still not fully understood. On the other hand, cancer patients can develop neurological disorders due to autoimmune response targeting normal neural tissues such as paraneoplastic cerebellar degeneration. Seronegative and seropositive patients with paraneoplastic cerebellar degeneration have similar clinical presentation. (Source: Parkinsonism and Related Disorders)

Reduced Immunogenicity of COVID-19 Vaccine in Obese Patients with Type 2 Diabetes: A Cross-Sectional Study
Acta Med Okayama. 2024 Apr;78(2):185-191. doi: 10.18926/AMO/66927.ABSTRACTThe global pandemic of coronavirus infection 2019 (COVID-19) was an unprecedented public health emergency. Several clinical studies reported that heart disease, lung disease, diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidemia, and obesity are critical risk factors for increased severity of and hospitalization for COVID-19. This is largely because patients with these underlying medical conditions can show poor immune responses to the COVID-19 vaccinations. Diabetes is one of the underlying conditions most highly associated with COVID-19 susceptibility and is consid...

Space-time heterogeneity of measles, mumps, and rubella vaccination indicators in children from BrazilHeterogeneidad espaciotemporal de los indicadores de inmunizaci ón con la vacuna triple viral en la población infantil de Brasil
CONCLUSIONS: In some Brazilian regions, the dropout rate has been high since 2014, signaling a risk of measles resurgence. In turn, space-time analysis indicated lower vaccination coverage in 2020, suggesting the influence of the COVID-19 pandemic.PMID:38686134 | PMC:PMC11053372 | DOI:10.26633/RPSP.2024.34 (Source: Pan American Journal of Public Health)

Reduction in Acute Post-Streptococcal Glomerulonephritis Incidence in Counties Manukau, New Zealand, after the COVID-19 Pandemic
We describe a marked, sustained reduction in APSGN hospitalizations, temporally associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. This ongoing reduction in APSGN incidence is notable in light of contrasting reports of increasing incidence of rheumatic fever in New Zealand and invasive GAS disease internationally.PMID:38688264 | DOI:10.4269/ajtmh.23-0762 (Source: Am J Trop Med Hyg)
