WAMC at T20
I plan on applying this upcoming cycle, and while I have high stats I don't really have any stand out ECs. Thoughts? GPA: 4.00 MCAT: 523 ECs: -350 hours clincial volunteering at large hospitals -500 hours of research in a biochem lab, 2 summers (~250 hours) of urological clinical research (no pubs in either) -Orgo TA for 1 semester -Biochemistry Supplemental Instruction Leader (kind of like a TA but I am responsible for meeting with a certain group of students and making... Dyspnea And Skin Discoloration In A Transplant Patient — What’s The Cause?
What medication is associated with this patient’s presentation? A 41-year-old male patient presents to the emergency department with dyspnea, headache, vomiting, and weakness. He had a kidney transplant nine years ago, and has been on a stable anti-rejection regimen. He has allergies to ciprofloxacin and trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole. Physical examination reveals gray-blue discoloration of the nose, fingers, and toes. A chest X-ray and ECG are both unremarkable. Arterial blood gas... UCSF vs. NYU vs. Johns Hopkins
I am fortunate enough to have received offers from some of my top choices this cycle and would appreciate input from current applicants, medical students, and/or physicians about making a decision. To assist in this: my career interests include health policy, outcomes research, and public health. I can see myself specializing in a surgical subspecialty (e.g. Urology, ENT) or Emergency Medicine. I am a CA resident and would like to eventually practice here. To keep things consistent, I have... UCSF vs. NYU vs. Johns Hopkins (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Recurrent Performance Problems
I'm a PGY-1, and with half of the year done and about 2 months of total actual EM time done, I'm noticing some pretty big recurrent problems. I was hoping to get some advice on how to deal. Firstly, I have a really bad habit of anchoring to diagnoses. Fairly often I'll get a strong bias towards whatever diagnosis seems most likely initially. The other day, a lady with history of kidney stones came in with colicky groin pain and couldn't get comfortable in any position. I got the workup... When to take Step 2 CK to be more competitive (subpar Step 1)?
Hi everyone, need some advice on when to take Step 2 CK. I know most of the comments on this forum recommend holding off on taking Step 2 until after interviews to avoid risky a low score, but my Step 1 was a 238, which is on the lower side. That being said, I am confident I can do well on Step 2, and I know my 238 may prevent me from getting interviews at schools with a 240 cut off, so figured the best thing to do was take Step 2 during the fall? Any advice on when the best time would be... When to take Step 2 CK to be more competitive (subpar Step 1)? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

does school matter for uro match?
Hi everyone. I know this is way too premature but I am holding a few acceptances to medical schools and I am trying to determine whether school choice would have any effect on uro match chances. From everything I've researched uro sounds really interesting and while I am not locking into it, i would like to leave that door open if that is truly what I want to pursue. I am holding acceptances at UC Irvine (15 min away from home), BU, and Stony Brook. Mainly considering UCI vs BU at the... does school matter for uro match? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

If you apply to ERAS after attempting the early SF match the previous year, are you considered a reapplicant/do programs know about it?
As in, if you attempt to match in Urology or Ophtho but don't make it, will you be considered a reapplicant next year if you attempt to match IM through ERAS? I was considering dual applying ophtho and IM. That or do a research year in between attempts. Would it also it harder for programs to see whether you're dual applying if you attempt both the SF match and ERAS? Thanks for the advice! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Types of research that would benefit an application for Urology
Hi all, was hoping to pick your brains about some research opportunities. I had the good fortune of being paired up with an oncologist who specializes in kidney, bladder, and prostate cancer for my first year clinical experience, and he works closely with a team of urologists. I've been invited to do basic science cancer research in his lab. I'm interested in his work, and I think he would be a good mentor, but I'm also wondering if I should be seeking out something that is more overtly... Transplant Surgery & Research? Is that Academic Transplant Surgery?
Hey ya'll. Question I want to research to discover how to generate the pancreas. I also want to become a surgeon. I was thinking that if I become a transplant surgeon, it will be a great match for doing both, since, obviously, the goal is to transplant the pancreases I, hopefully, make into people suffering from pancreatic diseases, specifically Type 1 Diabetes to cure them completely. I do know kidneys would be required too, maybe the discovery of one will serve to complement research and... Transplant Surgery & Research? Is that Academic Transplant Surgery? Does high liver volume make up for lack of trauma?
Hi all, Hoping this message reaches mostly practicing attending anesthesiologists (or even CRNAs). I am on the interview trail and a number of very good programs cite their lack of trauma experience as a potential weakness. They tend to cite their strengths in liver transplantation and surgery as a reasonable alternative to the resuscitation needed in trauma. Do you feel like this is an accurate statement, and if so would you be willing or able to work in a level one trauma center despite... Does high liver volume make up for lack of trauma?
