Urology vs orthopedic surgery for private practice
I am still between these two specialties and would like to know a few things to make the decision clearer: 1. Which is better suited for private practice and why? 2. What procedures do private practice urologists do? (A urologist said he can count on one hand the number of procedures he does in PP i.e. very little) 3. How much of urology is inpatient in PP? 4. Exactly how "resource-intensive" is urology in the sense of needing OR time, other personnel...etc 5. How much medical... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Research year AFTER med school?
Hello, I'm new here. I will be graduating med school July 2022. I am a US-IMG looking to match into Gen Surgery or Urology Residency in the US (goal is in Texas). I understand matching is very competitive for IMGs. After looking at the requirements, most programs require 3 Letter of Recommendation (from US based doctors/program directors) and some type of clinical experience in the US is a bonus. I only have 1 LOR from a US doctor. I feel like my chances of matching are very low, even if I... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Applying Urology as DO student / dual applying?
Hey guys, searched the threads and didn't find much information about applying as an osteopathic student. Had a few general questions. What Step 1 and Step 2 / Level 1 and Level 2 scores are considered competitive for old AOA programs? How heavy of an emphasis do Urology programs place on Step 2/Level 2? How many audition rotations are considered sufficient? How can I go about getting research in Urology? I know Urology has its own separate application from other specialties, how does... Difficult Experience with Coworkers in Clinical Job
Hi everyone! So I'm currently a rising junior working as a medical assistant this summer. I love the job; organizing the flow of the patients, getting to see all the procedures the doctor does (urology clinic), drawing blood, etc. However, I do not get along well with my coworkers. They definitely get along a lot better with each other and frequently leave me out of things. We're cordial, but it's still really awkward honestly. Anyway, these coworkers make me dread the days I have to go into... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Why Nephrology Grads Cannot Expect To Earn The Same As Their Partners !
Years ago, I had a colleague who accepted a neph job out of fellowship and he was excited with the prospects. Although starting salaries were low(180K/year), within 3 years he will make partner, and according to what the partners told him, they average around 500K/year. Sounds great right? Fast forward to today and this friend has left that job and is working as a hospitalist. So what happened? From my conversations with him, his partners actually didn’t lie to him, they just didn’t tell him... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Reliability of Compounding Pharmacies
The chief of Endocrinology at my state university medical school has stated he will not send Rxs to any compounding pharmacies because of their alleged substandard dosages for meds. If a patients needs an Rx, he requires that all be “FDA approved products” (i.e. not compounded) and dispensed at “regular retail pharmacies” (no compounding pharmacies). While Urologists, Dermatologists, OB/GYN and HIV physicians will utilize these compounding pharmacies for various injectables, creams and PO... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)
