Prostatic artery embolization
What do you think of the current data on PAE? Do you think it could ever cut into the bottom line/current practice of urologists, and further do you see any other interventional procedures that may take specific therapies out of the hands of urologists. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Description of shadowing as Most meaningful
So, in it's current draft I have my shadowing MM essay describing a couple sentences about pathology, urology, and rural primary care. Mostly kind of just what I saw and how those physician qualities were demonstrated and so on (usual shadowing stuff). Would it be better to do that or to give an actual anecdote? I do have a particularly impactful story (to me , at least) where I shadowed over the course of several months for a patient's screening, biopsy, cancer diagnosis, prostectomy and... ENT Chances (M3 applying in 2020 cycle)
Hello SDN! I have been hearing and reading about the insanely competitive ENT application cycle that just passed and am looking for advice on my overall competitiveness. I believe my research is particularly lacking but my scores/grades are strong. 264 Step 1, all honors, hopefully AOA, taking Step 2 in September 2019. Have 2 non-first author pubs and 3 abstracts/posters in urology (was interested in uro until late 2018) as well as a 5th author pub in ENT (my PI did me a solid and let me... ESP block
Seeing more and more in the literature. Several nice benefits. Used it again today: surgeon unexpectedly opened up a lap choley and pt had huge incision just under rib cage and I wasn’t sure if TAPS would do it. 0/10 pain in pacu. Even witnessed him cough without flinching a bit and ask for more ice chips. Other cases I’ve used it in: thoracotomy (lung, lvad, mini mitral), mastectomy, combined open liver + bowel resection Are you guys incorporating this more? Has it gained any... Bicarb
Have attendings that love to asking me what is the patient's preop bicarb prior to starting the case.. My question for you all is what do you do with this information? A patient comes in otherwise fine for elective case, but has kidney disease with bicarb if 13. Are you cancelling the case? Are you giving bicarb during the case? How do YOU change your management based on this information? (Source: Student Doctor Network)
