Sulphur-Boosted Active Hydrogen on Copper for Enhanced Electrocatalytic Nitrate-to-Ammonia Selectivity
Angew Chem Int Ed Engl. 2024 Feb 19:e202400289. doi: 10.1002/anie.202400289. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTElectrocatalytic nitrate reduction to ammonia is a promising approach in term of pollutant appreciation. Cu-based catalysts performs a leading-edge advantage for nitrate reduction due to its favorable adsorption with *NO3. However, the formation of active hydrogen (*H) on Cu surface is difficult and insufficient, leading to the significant generation of by-product NO2-. Herein, sulphur doped Cu (Cu-S) is prepared via an electrochemical conversion strategy and used for nitrate electroreduction. The high Faradaic effici...

Chronic aquatic toxicity assessment of diverse chemicals on Daphnia magna using QSAR and chemical read-across
Regul Toxicol Pharmacol. 2024 Feb 5;148:105572. doi: 10.1016/j.yrtph.2024.105572. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTWe have modeled here chronic Daphnia toxicity taking pNOEC (negative logarithm of no observed effect concentration in mM) and pEC50 (negative logarithm of half-maximal effective concentration in mM) as endpoints using QSAR and chemical read-across approaches. The QSAR models were developed by strictly obeying the OECD guidelines and were found to be reliable, predictive, accurate, and robust. From the selected features in the developed models, we have found that an increase in lipophilicity and saturation, the pr...

Structure characterization of aged automobile exhaust catalysts using electron probe microanalysis
In this study, an aged high-mileage automobile exhaust catalyst with Pd and Rh active phases supported on a cerium zirconium oxide doped alumina coating on cordierite was analysed; six consecutive monolithic blocks along the inlet to the outlet of the aged catalyst were extracted, and the corresponding metallographic samples were fabricated using the vacuum impregnation resin method. The purpose of this study was to accurately characterize the different regions of the monolith via electron probe microanalysis and to infer potential causes of catalyst deactivation. Two major causes of deactivation were found: (1) aggregatio...

Comparative analysis reveals the trivial role of MsrP in defending oxidative stress and virulence of Salmonella Typhimurium in mice
Free Radic Biol Med. 2024 Mar;213:322-326. doi: 10.1016/j.freeradbiomed.2024.01.020. Epub 2024 Jan 21.ABSTRACTSulphur containing amino acids, methionine and cysteine are highly prone to oxidation. Reduction of oxidized methionine (Met-SO) residues to methionine (Met) by methionine sulfoxide reductases (Msrs) enhances the survival of bacterial pathogens under oxidative stress conditions. S. Typhimurium encodes two types (cytoplasmic and periplasmic) of Msrs. Periplasmic proteins, due to their location are highly vulnerable to host-generated oxidants. Therefore, the periplasmic Msr (MsrP) mediated repair (as compared to the ...

Sulphur Amino Acids: How Important is it to Set Reference Ranges for Each Population?
CONCLUSION: Our results showed significant differences in tHcy and tγ-Glu-Cys levels across both age groups, which increased and decreased with age, respectively. It is interesting to highlight that in the 17-year-old group, tHcy and tγ-Glu-Cys levels were higher in males than in females. These observations showed that age and gender influence plasma levels of thiols, which may impact cellular oxidative status. In conclusion, setting age and gender distinct ranges for each specific population is of utmost importance for understanding disease mechanisms and the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions.PMID:38243971 | DO...

Foveal-Sparing ILM Peeling with ILM Flap Transposition over the Macular Hole for Repair of Full-Thickness Macular Holes
CONCLUSIONS: A combination of foveal-sparing ILM peeling with ILM flap techniques was shown to be a safe and effective surgical option for patients with full-thickness macular holes, resulting in a high macular hole closure rate and improvement in visual acuity in the majority of patients.PMID:38242161 | DOI:10.1055/a-2217-2568 (Source: Klinische Monatsblatter fur Augenheilkunde)
