Downregulation of SLC3A2 mediates immune evasion and accelerates metastasis in oral squamous cell carcinoma
This study aimed to investigate how SLC3A2 downregulation mediates immune evasion and promotes metastasis in OSCC through bioinformatics analysis and cell experiments. Gene enrichment analysis was performed using human double sulphur death-related genes from the GSEA database. Differentially expressed genes were selected from the GEO database. Diagnostic models were constructed and validated using gene expression datasets. Immune infiltration and function were analysed through Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway enrichment analyses. Cell experiments were conducted to evaluate the i...

In the above mentioned article of the March 2022 issue, megatons, rather than kilotons, was incorrectly used as the unit of measurement within Table 4. The Table 4 title should read, “TABLE 4. Air Emissions Sulphur Hexafluoride (SF6) in 2018 in the United Kingdom, Kilotons CO2 Equivalent.” The second column heading should read, “Kilotons CO2 Equivalent.” (Source: American Journal of Ophthalmology)

Int J Syst Evol Microbiol. 2023 Nov;73(11). doi: 10.1099/ijsem.0.006151.ABSTRACTA novel anaerobic heterotrophic bacterium, designated strain SWIR-1T, was isolated from a deep-sea hydrothermal vent field sample collected from the Southwest Indian Ridge at a depth of 2700 m. Phylogenetic analysis indicated that strain SWIR-1T belongs to the genus Tepidibacter, and the most closely related species are Tepidibacter mesophilus B1T (99.1 % 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity), Tepidibacter formicigenes DV1184T (94.6 %) and Tepidibacter thalassicus SC562T (93.9 %). Strain SWIR-1T shares 77.3-87.2 % average nucleotide identity and 2...

Int J Syst Evol Microbiol. 2023 Nov;73(11). doi: 10.1099/ijsem.0.006142.ABSTRACTA novel mesophilic, chemolithoautotrophic, hydrogen-oxidizing bacterium, designated strain ST1-3T, was isolated from mud sediment samples collected from mangroves in Jiulong River estuary. The cells were Gram-stain-negative, non-motile and rod-shaped. The temperature, pH and salinity ranges for growth of strain ST1-3T were 4-45 °C (optimum, 35 °C), pH 5.0-8.5 (optimum, pH 7.0) and 0-8.0 % (w/v) NaCl (optimum, 4.0 %). The isolate was an obligate chemolithoautotroph capable of growth using hydrogen as the only energy source, and molecular oxyge...

Research on air pollutants and odour emissions from paving hot-mix asphalt with end-of-life tyre rubber
This article discusses different types of pollution from the paving process and the influence of using hot mix asphalt without and including end-of-life tyre rubber. This new composition type is one of the possible solutions to reduce the amount of used transport tyres and a new way to use less valuable raw materials. The research carried out involved analyzers applied under conditions of a mobile laboratory and handheld particle counters. Odour samples were taken using a vacuum chamber in Tedlar containers, and the level of odours was analyzed adopting the olfactometric method. Exposure to gaseous carbon, nitrogen and sul...

Homeopathic Medicines in the Management of Dermatophytosis (Tinea Infections): A Clinico-epidemiological Study with Pre-post Comparison Design
CONCLUSION: T. cruris and T. corporis were prevalent dermatophytic infections. The decrease in NRS and DLQI scores associated with homeopathy indicates its usefulness as an integrative treatment option for dermatophytosis. Further research in larger and more diverse population samples is needed.PMID:37913793 | DOI:10.1055/s-0043-1771023 (Source: Homeopathy)

Air quality may affect emergency department workload: The effect of air pollution on acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in Zagreb, Croatia
Conclusion: Air pollution in a city with just over 800,000 inhabitants significantly contributes to the acute worsening in COPD patients. More studies with a wider set of data are needed to confirm this finding and to determine the underlying pathophysiology. (Source: European Respiratory Journal)
