Molecules, Vol. 27, Pages 5468: Design, Synthesis and Structure-Activity Relationship of Novel Pinacolone Sulfonamide Derivatives against Botrytis cinerea as Potent Antifungal Agents
ei Liu Xinghai Li To develop new fungicides with high efficiency, 46 novel sulfonamide derivatives were designed and synthesized by introducing pinacolone fragment into chesulfamide which was used as lead compound. All compounds were characterized by 1H NMR, 13C NMR, and MS spectra, and the structure of compound P-27 was also confirmed by X-ray single crystal diffraction. It was found that a variety of compounds present excellent inhibitory effect against Botrytis cinerea. The inhibition rates of P-29 on tomato and strawberry were 90.24% (200 mg/L) and 100% (400 mg/L) in vivo respectively, which were better than the ...

Crop-type-driven changes in polyphenols regulate soil nutrient availability and soil microbiota
In this study, the composition and function of microbial communities were comparatively investigated in soils of tea seedlings continuously planted for 2 years (AC: autumn-cutting; SC: summer-cutting) and in soils rotation with strawberries alternately for 3 years (AR: autumn-cutting). The results showed that AR significantly improved the survival of tea seedlings but greatly reduced the contents of soil polyphenols. The lower soil polyphenol levels in AR were associated with the decline of nutrients (SOC, TN, Olsen-P) availability, which stimulates the proliferation of nutrient cycling-related bacteria and mixed-trophic f...

Bio-nanocomposite edible coatings based on arrowroot starch/cellulose nanocrystals/carnauba wax nanoemulsion containing essential oils to preserve quality and improve shelf life of strawberry
This study investigated the effects of bio-nanocomposite coatings developed using arrowroot starch (AA), cellulose nanocrystals (CNC), carnauba wax nanoemulsion (CWN), and Cymbopogon martinii and Mentha spicata essential oils (CEO and MEO, respectively) on the physicochemical, microbiological, bioactive, antioxidant, and aromatic characteristics of strawberries cv. 'Oso Grande' in refrigerated storage for 12 days. The coatings improved the shelf life and stability of strawberries, minimizing their weight loss (2.6-3.9 %), as well as changes in color and texture (except for those coated with CEO), titratable acidity, pH, so...

Sensors, Vol. 22, Pages 5866: Smart Strawberry Farming Using Edge Computing and IoT
ueiredo Strawberries are sensitive fruits that are afflicted by various pests and diseases. Therefore, there is an intense use of agrochemicals and pesticides during production. Due to their sensitivity, temperatures or humidity at extreme levels can cause various damages to the plantation and to the quality of the fruit. To mitigate the problem, this study developed an edge technology capable of handling the collection, analysis, prediction, and detection of heterogeneous data in strawberry farming. The proposed IoT platform integrates various monitoring services into one common platform for digital farming. The syste...

Exposure to iprodione induces ROS production and mitochondrial dysfunction in porcine trophectoderm and uterine luminal epithelial cells, leading to implantation defects during early pregnancy
This study demonstrated a series of cytotoxic responses of iprodione along with the alteration of implantation-related gene expression in porcine trophectoderm (pTr) and luminal epithelium (pLE) cells. In this study, iprodione suppressed cell viability, proliferation, and migration of these cells. Iprodione induced G1 phase arrest and attenuated spheroid formation by pTr and pLE cells. Furthermore, iprodione caused mitochondrial dysfunction and excessive reactive oxygen species generation, which resulted in an increase in mitochondrial calcium levels. Consequently, DNA damage and apoptotic cell death were induced by iprodi...

Quality Properties and Headspace Volatiles of Hot Air-Dried Strawberries
An Acad Bras Cienc. 2022 Aug 1;94(2):e20201277. doi: 10.1590/0001-3765202220201277. eCollection 2022.ABSTRACTStrawberry is one of the most important soft fruit in food industry. With its flavor and antioxidant content, it is widely used mainly in confectionery and beverage industry. Strawberries are perishable and this limits their usage in foods. For that reason, drying is one of the solutions to make them durable. The aim of this study is to analyze certain quality parameters and headspace volatiles of hot air-dried 'Florida Fortuna' and 'Osmanlı' strawberries (Fragaria xananassa) at 50, 60 and 70°C. The results showed...

Appl Environ Microbiol. 2022 Aug 2:e0055022. doi: 10.1128/aem.00550-22. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe advent of high-throughput sequencing and population genomics has enabled researchers to investigate selection pressure at hypervariable genomic loci encoding pathogen-associated molecular pattern (PAMP) molecules like lipopolysaccharide (LPS). Xanthomonas is a model and a major group of phytopathogenic bacteria that infect hosts in tissue-specific manner. Our in-depth population-based genomic investigation revealed the emergence of major lineages in two Xanthomonas pathogens that infect xylem of rice and sugarcane is a...
