Need help picking a class
Hello all, I'm a psychology major with a biological & cognitive focus. My junior spring semester will be: - Physics 2 (4cr) - Research Methods (Psych) (3cr) - Immunology (3cr) - X - MCAT PREP LOL I've been thinking about taking a second statistics class, or getting more time in at our rat lab, or even going for another cool psych class. But have been thinking I might need more Bio uppers since MSAR has a lot of suggested ones from various schools (Genetics, etc). Am I cool with just... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Chances for medical school?
Hi! I am applying to medical school this upcoming cycle, and I feel a little stressed about my statistics. I still need to take my MCAT, but I wanted to see if my GPA is good enough for medical school. I took the bulk of my science classes online in my sophomore year during COVID and family issues, hence the drop in my sophomore year. My university is a medium sized university, with an R2 status, we have a medical school attached to it. I currently have a 3.59 overall GPA and a 3.48 SGPA. I... How much should I let the competitiveness of fellowship matching dissuade me from going IM (or more broadly, from going into any prelim position)?
I'd love advice, or just other people's point of view, or how people in a position similar to this have handled it. If I would not be happy as an internist for the rest of my life, or in gen-surg, should that be a red flag to me that I should consider not going into those fields with the hopes of getting into a fellowship? I've gotten into a good ranked MD school with excellent match statistics. I've made mentors and am now published (yay!) with a funded summer research project to... What courses are more important in undergrad?
Hello all, I am currently a junior majoring in psychology with the goal to continue onto a PhD program (hopefully UF as I am already a Florida resident). My fields of interest are either pediatric neuropsychology or pediatric clinical psychology, but these may be subject to change as I'm open to many things. My school does not offer a lot of "advanced" psychology courses or anything neuroscience related, but they do offer a handful of statistics courses. I was debating taking an additional... Consumer Reviewer considered research?
Hello everyone, For a couple of years I have worked as a consumer reviewer for a program that funds clinical research. I review up to 15 research proposals and rank them according to impact, feasibility, personnel, etc. Several clinicians, researchers, statisticians, and I meet during a conference for two or three days and discuss our notes for each category of the application. We then vote to determine which are deemed most worthy of funding. I am preparing for applications this fall... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

We need to adopt Mental health
Did you know? According to the statistics, the most common type of mental health disorder is anxiety disorder, which affects around 40 million Americans each year. Imagine this rate at a global level! Mental health disorders are on the rise in our country, and it’s important to understand how these disorders can impact our day-to-day lives. Although mental health has come out of the shadows, it still has a long way to go; people need to consider this beyond just a ‘trend’ Well... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Psych Careers MEGA CHART
Hi all, I have been planning on going to grad school in psych for a masters or a doctroal degree. However, when deciding what program to choose, I was pretty overwhelmed by all the degree types and career paths in psychology as well as the mental health field as a whole. So, I made a visual chart that depicts various psych career paths, their degree requirements, and their relevant pay grades (income based on national averages from 2021 US Berau of Labor Statistics data). I just want to... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Non-STEM Letters of Recommendation
I'm currently preparing for the next application cycle and am having trouble finding non-STEM letters of rec. This is a problem because I haven't taken a non-STEM class since fall quarter sophomore year (statistics) and humanities classes since freshman year. I can't really ask any of those professors who could write me a LOR (although I did do well in their classes) since I never interacted with them. I was thinking that I should take a humanities class I'm interested in during the next... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Coding/Statistics Experience Necessary for PhD Programs?
Having gone down the physician path myself, I had no idea how competitive this Clinical Psychology PhD process is (i.e triple digit applications for double digit interviews for 1-4 spots) and definitely realize I lack the intuition I once thought I had about it so I need help. My partner has worked multiple jobs in the area of psychology with a diverse range of clinical experiences at psychology centers, an OK uGPA (she's a bit removed from it though), an above average GRE, and she has... WAMC: Should I delay my application? - cGPA: 3.58, sGPA: 3.63
Hey everyone, I'm in need of some guidance about whether or not I should finish up my DIY Post-Bacc. I was a Statistics major in college back between 2016-2020 and I had taken pre-med courses in college not because I was looking into going to medical school, but to explore my options in choosing a minor. I got through 2 semesters of Gen Chemistry (with labs taken), 2 semester of Gen Physics (Online and without a lab component), and two semester of Biology (with labs taken). My grades... Matched at the bottom of my list
Long story short, I matched at the bottom on my list. I took seriously the advice of ranking only the programs which I would be willing to train at, and ranking based on my true preferences without regard to how I think the programs would rank me. Although I am willing to train at the program I matched to and I have reasons to be excited about going there, analyzing this year's match statistics is only making me question if something went wrong in my application/interview process, and if my...
