The Relationship Between Sleep Quality, Sleep Duration, Social Jet Lag and Obesity in Adolescents
CONCLUSION: Adolescents with obesity reveal poorer sleep quality and a longer duration of SJL compared to adolescents with normal-weight. Moreover, increased SJL was linked to an increase in BMI. Maintaining good sleep quality and less exposure to SJL may help reduce the risk of obesity.PMID:38683020 | DOI:10.4274/jcrpe.galenos.2024.2024-2-2 (Source: JCRPE Journal of Clinical Research in Pediatric Endocrinology)

Prenatal and postnatal factors associated with sudden infant death syndrome: an umbrella review of meta-analyses
CONCLUSIONS: Based on the evidence, we propose several risk and protective factors for SIDS. This study suggests the need for further studies on SIDS-related factors supported by weak credibility, no association, or a lack of adequate research.PMID:38684567 | DOI:10.1007/s12519-024-00806-1 (Source: World Journal of Pediatrics : WJP)

Autoimmune encephalitis mediated by postvaccination and infection of SARS-CoV-2 in a patient with a narcolepsy type 1
CONCLUSION: The patient fulfilled the diagnostic criteria for autoimmune encephalitis with subacute onset. COVID-19 infection and vaccination could constitute a risk in a patient with narcolepsy as in this case and, could help to provide better understanding of the implication of immune-mediated processes in the pathophysiology of the diseases.PMID:38682764 | DOI:10.33588/rn.7809.2023306 (Source: Revista de Neurologia)

Neural Network-Based Prediction of Perceived Sleep Quality Through Wearable Device Data
This study focuses on the development of a neural network model to predict perceived sleep quality using data from wearable devices. We collected various physiological metrics from 18 participants over four weeks, including heart rate, physical activity, and both device-measured and self-reported sleep quality.OBJECTIVES: The primary objective was to correlate wearable device data with subjective sleep quality perceptions.METHODS: Our approach used data processing, feature engineering, and optimizing a Multi-Layer Perceptron classifier.RESULTS: Despite comprehensive data analysis and model experimentation, the predictive a...

The Effect of Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) Therapy on Serum Caspase-3 Level in Patients with Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA)
CONCLUSION: The results of this study did not reveal a relationship between the severity of OSA and caspase-3 levels. However, blood caspase-3 levels decreased as treatment compliance increased, suggesting that CPAP treatment may correct increased apoptosis in OSA. There is a need for more comprehensive studies on this issue.PMID:38683249 | DOI:10.1007/s11325-024-03039-8 (Source: Sleep and Breathing)

Data-driven shortened Insomnia Severity Index  (ISI): a machine learning approach
CONCLUSION: As ISI-3 m is a highly accurate shortened version of the ISI, it allows clinicians to efficiently screen for insomnia and observe variations in the condition throughout the treatment process. Furthermore, the framework based on the combination of EFA and XGBoost developed in this study can be utilized to develop data-driven shortened versions of the other questionnaires.PMID:38684641 | DOI:10.1007/s11325-024-03037-w (Source: Sleep and Breathing)

The mediating role of health behaviors in the association between depression, anxiety and cancer incidence: an individual participant data meta-analysis
CONCLUSIONS: Smoking constitutes a mediating pathway linking depression and anxiety to lung cancer and smoking-related cancers. Our findings underline the importance of smoking cessation interventions for persons with depression or anxiety.PMID:38680088 | DOI:10.1017/S0033291724000850 (Source: Psychological Medicine)

Long-term Impact of Psychological Rehabilitation on Isolated Hospitalization Patients with COVID-19: A Longitudinal Study
CONCLUSIONS: Psychological rehabilitation showed a significant long-term reduction in depression, but not in anxiety. Therefore, continuous intervention and management of mental health are required after discharge.PMID:38684140 | DOI:10.1097/PHM.0000000000002514 (Source: Health Physics)

Influence of sleep symptoms on recovery from concussion in collegiate athletes: a LIMBIC MATARS consortium investigation
CONCLUSION: Collegiate athletes that report sleep-related symptoms immediately following concussion (<72 hours) were observed to take, on median, two days longer to achieve symptom resolution at rest when compared to athletes who did not endorse the same symptoms.PMID:38679931 | DOI:10.1080/02699052.2024.2347542 (Source: Brain Injury)

Factors associated with the fragmentation and stability of the rest-activity rhythm in adults and older adults
Chronobiol Int. 2024 Apr 29:1-12. doi: 10.1080/07420528.2024.2346521. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThis cross-sectional study aimed to identify factors related to the fragmentation and stability of the rest-activity rhythm (RAR) in adults and older adults. It is part of a larger research project investigating aspects concerning sleep duration, quality, and disorders in a representative subsample of the population. Sociodemographic data, lifestyle, health habits and subjective sleep variables were obtained; RAR records were collected by means of actigraphy and analyzed using non-parametric variables (IS, IV, M10, L5, RA, s...
