Effects of Sleep Hygiene on Sleep Disturbance in Patients with Parkinsonism
Background: Patients with Parkinsonism often encounter various sleep-related issues, including insomnia, sleep fragmentation, REM sleep behavior disorder(RBD), Restless Legs Syndrome(RLS), Excessive Daytime Sleepiness(EDS), and circadian rhythm disruptions. However, to date, the focus has primarily centered on alleviating symptoms through medical interventions, with limited research addressing the enhancement of sleep disturbances through sleep hygiene practices. We conducted a cross-sectional study to examine the impact of sleep hygiene on sleep disturbance in Parkinsonism patients. (Source: Parkinsonism and Related Disorders)

Targeting sedentary behavior decreases depressive symptoms and improves sleep in people with Parkinson ’s Disease
Background: Physical Therapy (PT) and regular exercise are an integral part of the management of Parkinson's Disease (PD). Exercise is also known to have a mitigating effect on depressive symptoms. There is increasing evidence that decreasing sedentary behavior is also a valuable tool to manage PD symptoms. We looked at the effect of decreasing sedentary behavior on depressive symptoms in PD by offering an opportunity to replace sedentary behavior with slow paced standing and stepping behavior in the home environment. Effects of Continuous Subcutaneous Infusion of Foslevodopa/Foscarbidopa on Sleep Dysfunction in People With Parkinson's
Background: The study objective was to assess whether 24-hour/day continuous subcutaneous infusion (CSCI) of foslevodopa/foscarbidopa (LDp/CDp) improves Parkinson ’s Disease Sleep Scale-2 (PDSS-2) subdomains in people with Parkinson’s (PwP). The PDSS-2 provides a Total Score (TS) and subdomain scores for: Motor Symptoms at Night (MS), Parkinson’s Disease Symptoms at Night (PDS), and Disturbed Sleep (DS). A double-blind 12-week phase 3 trial of LDp/CDp C SCI versus levodopa-carbidopa immediate-release (LD/CD-IR) oral tablets (NCT04380142) suggested improvements in the intention-to-treat (ITT) population PDSS-2 TS. Improvement of non-motor symptoms with NE3107 adjunctive to Carbidopa / Levodopa in patients with Parkinson`s disease: A Phase 2A, placebo-controlled study
Background: NE3107 is an oral, blood-brain barrier –permeable, anti-inflammatory insulin-sensitizer that binds extracellular signal-regulated kinase and inhibits inflammatory nuclear factor kappa B and tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α) signaling. Inflammation, particularly TNF-α, may have a role in sleep regulation, fatigue, and restless legs symptoms. Therefore, we evaluated the effects of NE3107 treatment on non-motor symptoms (NMS) in patients with carbidopa/levodopa (C/L)-treated Parkinson’s disease (PD) experiencing motor fluctuations. Opicapone Effect on Sleep Disorders in Fluctuating Parkinson ’s Disease Patients: Findings from the OASIS Trial
Background: Motor fluctuations (MF) and associated sleep disorders are common in Parkinson ’s disease (PD) patients receiving levodopa/dopa decarboxylase inhibitors, negatively affecting their quality of life. Opicapone (OPC) proved to be effective in reducing end-of-dose MF in patients with PD. The OASIS study evaluated OPC’s effects on sleep disorders in PD patients with MF. The moderating role of conscientiousness in the temporal association of stress on sleep
This study examined whether daytime stress predicts sleep the following night, and the moderating role of neuroticism and conscientiousness in this relationship. To introduce stress variability in natural daily stressors, we measured college students (N = 92) during exams (e.g. high academic stress) and at the start of new course period (e.g. low academic stress). Both objective (actigraphy) and subjective sleep, and daily self-reported stress, were measured for 14 days and personality traits once. Reported daily stress was significantly higher in the exam period compared with baseline, suggesting that our natural manipula...

Insomnia and risk of mortality in older adults
J Sleep Res. 2024 Apr 29:e14229. doi: 10.1111/jsr.14229. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTExisting evidence linking insomnia to all-cause mortality in older individuals remains inconclusive. We conducted a retrospective study of a large cohort of veterans aged 65-80 years old identified from the Corporate Data Warehouse, a large data repository derived from the Veterans Health Administration integrated medical records. Veterans' enrollees with and without International Classification of Diseases, Ninth and Tenth Revision, codes corresponding to insomnia diagnosis between 1 January 2010 and 30 March 2019 were assessed for elig...

Fever-induced acute sleep terrors in children and adolescents following SARS-CoV-2 infection
CONCLUSION: SARS-CoV-2 infection may precipitate acute sleep terrors in children and adolescents. The course of these sleep terrors is generally benign, with all patients achieving spontaneous complete remission over time.PMID:38689200 | DOI:10.1007/s11325-024-03038-9 (Source: Sleep and Breathing)
