Efficacy of acupuncture as adjunct therapy for sleep disorders in Parkinson's disease: A systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSION: This study provides initial evidence that acupuncture as an adjunct therapy might be associated with improvement of sleep disorders in PD. Due to the lack of high-quality studies, larger sample size studies with sham acupuncture groups should be conducted in future.REGISTRATION NUMBER: CRD42022364249 (PROSPERO).PMID:38679147 | DOI:10.1016/j.ctim.2024.103044 (Source: Complementary Therapies in Medicine)

Early cortical atrophy in REM sleep behavior disorder
CONCLUSIONS: Almost half of our series have developed a neurodegenerative disease in the first 10years of evolution. The majority of them presented global cortical atrophy measured by the GCA scale in the first year of diagnosis, without other neurological symptoms. Patients who did not show cortical atrophy at diagnosis have not yet developed the neurodegenerative disease in 10years of evolution. In our experience, the absence of cortical atrophy on cranial MRI or CT (measured by scales such as GCA) at the diagnosis of RSBD seems to predict slower progression cases. These data should be corroborated with larger series.PMI...

A gated recurrent unit model based on ultrasound images of dynamic tongue movement for determining the severity of obstructive sleep apnea
This study endeavors to bridge this gap by capturing US images of DTM dynamics during wakefulness, encompassing transitions from normal breathing (NB) to the performance of the Müller maneuver (MM) in a cohort of 53 patients. Leveraging the modified optical flow method (MOFM), the trajectories of patients' DTM were tracked, facililtating the extraction of 27 parameters vital for model training. These parameters encompassed nine-point lateral movement, nine-point axial movement, and nine-point total displacement of the tongue, resulting in a dataset of 186,030 samples. The gated recurrent unit (GRU) method, renowned for it...

Lebrikizumab monotherapy impacts on quality of life scores through improved itch and sleep interference in two Phase 3 trials
CONCLUSIONS: Improvement in itch and sleep interference due to itch is associated with improvement in the QoL of patients after treatment with lebrikizumab for moderate-to-severe AD.ClinicalTrials.gov registration NCT04146363 (ADvocate1) and NCT04178967 (ADvocate2).PMID:38679419 | DOI:10.1080/09546634.2024.2329240 (Source: Journal of Dermatological Treatment)

Epigenetic Aging Associations With Psychoneurological Symptoms and Social Functioning in Adults With Sickle Cell Disease
Conclusion: Epigenetic age acceleration was associated with worse symptom experiences, suggesting the potential for epigenetic age acceleration as a biomarker to aid in risk stratification or targets for intervention to mitigate symptom burden in SCD.PMID:38679469 | DOI:10.1177/10998004241250322 (Source: Cell Research)

Maternal positional therapy for fetal growth and customised birth weight centile benefit in a Bayesian reanalysis of a double-blind, sham-controlled, randomised clinical trial
Conclusions Maternal nightly PT throughout the third-trimester did not have a statistically significant effect on CBWC on a frequentist analysis using the latest fetal growth standard. However, from a Bayesian analysis, clinicians can infer that PT is likely to benefit fetal growth but with a modest effect size. Trial registration number NCT02379728. (Source: BMJ Open)

Process Evaluation and Investigation of Cultural Adaptations for an Online Parent-Based Intervention Using a Mixed-Method Approach
AbstractMost alcohol intervention research focuses on program efficacy, yet few studies have investigated the acceptability of a program ’s design and implementation to the target population or adapting existing alcohol interventions to different populations. To address these gaps in the literature, we (1) examined participant responsiveness to and implementation quality of FITSTART+, a web-app delivered parent-based alcohol interv ention designed for incoming first-year college students in the United States, and (2) gathered feedback on how this intervention could be adapted to other populations of parents. A sample of ...

Sensors, Vol. 24, Pages 2811: Classification of Sleep Quality and Aging as a Function of Brain Complexity: A Multiband Non-Linear EEG Analysis
nacio Cifre Understanding and classifying brain states as a function of sleep quality and age has important implications for developing lifestyle-based interventions involving sleep hygiene. Current studies use an algorithm that captures non-linear features of brain complexity to differentiate awake electroencephalography (EEG) states, as a function of age and sleep quality. Fifty-eight participants were assessed using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Inventory (PSQI) and awake resting state EEG. Groups were formed based on age and sleep quality (younger adults n = 24, mean age = 24.7 years, SD = 3.43, good sleepers n = 11...
