Factors associated with allergic rhinitis and combined allergic rhinitis and asthma syndrome (CARAS) in adults undergoing immunotherapy in a tropical country: Is ISAAC-III questionnaire useful in adult populations?
CONCLUSION: The main factor associated with AR was regular acetaminophen use, while that associated with CARAS was cesarean delivery. The ISAAC-III questionnaire can be a useful low-cost tool to assess the factors associated with allergic diseases in adults in tropical countries.PMID:37422783 | DOI:10.15586/aei.v51i4.833

Quantifying the Impact of Dysmenorrhea Symptoms on Quality-of-Life and Access to Oral Contraceptives by Income
CONCLUSION: Dysmenorrhea affected most participants in the cohort with an impact that extends beyond professional obligations. Income was found to be positively correlated with increased OCP use, whereas education level was inversely correlated. Clinicians should consider how patients' backgrounds influence their access to OCP options. An improvement on this study's findings would be to establish a causal relationship between these demographic factors and access to OCPs.PMID:37405315 | PMC:PMC10317510 | DOI:10.52965/001c.74120

Quantification of pharmaceuticals in hospital effluent: Weighted ranking of environmental risk using a fuzzy hybrid multicriteria method
Chemosphere. 2023 Jul 3:139368. doi: 10.1016/j.chemosphere.2023.139368. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAn analytical method for quantification of seventeen pharmaceuticals and one metabolite was validated and applied in the analysis of hospital effluent samples. Two different sampling strategies were used: seasonal sampling, with 7 samples collected bimonthly; and hourly sampling, with 12 samples collected during 12 h. Thus, the variability was both seasonal and within the same day. High variability was observed in the measured concentrations of the pharmaceuticals and the metabolite. The quantification method, performed us...

Xanthohumol protect against acetaminophen-induced hepatotoxicity via Nrf2 activation through the AMPK/Akt/GSK3 β pathway
CONCLUSION: Thus, xanthohumol exerted a hepatoprotective effect by inhibiting oxidative stress and mitochondrial dysfunction through the AMPK/Akt/GSK3β/Nrf2 antioxidant pathway.PMID:37406514 | DOI:10.1016/j.biopha.2023.115097

Gefitinib-induced Myositis: A Novel Case Report
Yakugaku Zasshi. 2023;143(7):617-620. doi: 10.1248/yakushi.23-00007.ABSTRACTChemotherapy-induced myositis is a severe adverse event caused by chemotherapeutic agents such as immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) or cytotoxic agents. We experienced a patient with gefitinib-induced myositis with symptoms of muscle cramps and stiffness in the limbs, and reported the treatment process. A 70-year-old woman received four courses of carboplatin (CBDCA)+pemetrexed (PEM)+gefitinib (intravenous CBDCA area under the curve (AUC) 5 and PEM 500 mg/m2, every 3 weeks, and oral gefitinib 250 mg daily), for epidermal growth factor receptor (E...
