Simultaneous degradation of contaminants of emerging concern and disinfection by solar photoelectro-Fenton process at circumneutral pH in a solar electrochemical raceway pond reactor
Chemosphere. 2023 Sep 1:139978. doi: 10.1016/j.chemosphere.2023.139978. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSimultaneous contaminants of emerging concern (CECs) removal and wild microorganisms' inactivation was evaluated by applying solar photoelectro-Fenton (SPEF) process in actual secondary effluent collected from a real municipal wastewater treatment plant (MWWTP). 20 L of a mixture of four CECs was used as model pollutants (200 μg/L of acetaminophen, caffeine, sulfamethazine, and sulfamethoxazole each one). The SPEF process was carried out on fully sunny days, at circumneutral pH using the complex Fe3+-EDDS, in a solar elec...

Brief Report: Acetaminophen Reduces Neoadjuvant Chemoimmunotherapy Efficacy in Patients With NSCLC by Promoting Neutrophil Extracellular Trap Formation: Analysis From a Phase 2 Clinical Trial
CONCLUSIONS: APAP could impair neoadjuvant chemoimmunotherapy efficacy in patients with NSCLC by promoting neutrophil activation and neutrophil extracellular trap formation.PMID:37654895 | PMC:PMC10466912 | DOI:10.1016/j.jtocrr.2023.100556

Efficacy and safety of patient-controlled thoracic epidural analgesia alone versus patient-controlled intravenous analgesia with acetaminophen after laparoscopic distal gastrectomy for gastric cancer: a propensity score-matched analysis
CONCLUSIONS: PCIA + Ace can be safely applied without an increase in complications or deterioration in gastrointestinal function; moreover, PCIA + Ace use may provide better pain control than PCEA use in patients following LDG.PMID:37653160 | DOI:10.1007/s00464-023-10370-w

Assessing Platelet Mitochondrial Dysfunction in a Murine Model of Acute Acetaminophen Toxicity
CONCLUSIONS: Platelet oxygen consumption as a measure of mitochondrial function may be useful as a biomarker of hepatic APAP toxicity in the setting of moderate to severe overdose. Treatment with 4-MP decreases hepatic necrosis and may mitigate the harmful effects of APAP on platelet mitochondrial function detected via POC.PMID:37644341 | DOI:10.1007/s13181-023-00964-0

Breastfeeding or breast milk for procedural pain in neonates
CONCLUSIONS: Moderate-/low-certainty evidence suggests that breastfeeding or supplemental breast milk may reduce pain in neonates undergoing painful procedures compared to no intervention/positioning/holding or placebo or non-pharmacological interventions. Low-certainty evidence suggests that moderate concentration (20% to 33%) glucose/sucrose may lead to little or no difference in reducing pain compared to breastfeeding. The effectiveness of breast milk for painful procedures should be studied in the preterm population, as there are currently a limited number of studies that have assessed its effectiveness in this populat...
