Does delayed urticaria induced by drug allergy exist?
Abstract With the help of a routine clinical case about delayed urticaria induced by drug, we have analyzed the scientific societies reports published during the last 5 years on this topic. We highlighted the differences between the EAACI consensus and documents on drug allergy, commenting their positions and some of their definitions on delayed urticaria. However, the question of disagreement between definitions of delayed urticaria can generate confusion. It would be beneficial to have more and "official" clearness about this topic because of its important clinical application to our patients. PMI...

The status of FOXP3 gene methylation in pediatric systemic lupus erythematosus.
CONCLUSIONS: The FOXP3 gene methylation in children with SLE was significantly higher than healthy subjects, which could possibly affect the level of gene expression. Therefore, one of the causes of increased immune response in SLE can be the lower expression of FOXP3 by hypermethylation of this gene. Allergy to beta-lactam antibiotics in children: Risk factors for a positive diagnostic work-up.
as JR Abstract BACKGROUND: Allergy to beta-lactam (βL) antibiotics is highly reported in children, but rarely confirmed. Risk factors for a positive diagnostic work-up are scarce. The primary aim was to characterize the cases of children with confirmed βL allergy, investigating potential risk factors. Secondary aims were to assess the prevalence of allergy to βL in this population and to confirm the safety of less extensive diagnostic protocols for milder reactions. METHODS: We reviewed the clinical data from all children evaluated in our Department for suspected βL allergy, over a six-yea...

Antihistamines in children and adolescents: A practical update.
Abstract Histamine is a chemical mediator, released predominantly by tissue mast cells, circulating basophils, and neurons, which are activated in response to various immunological and non-immunological stimuli. Histamine has to bind to specific receptors to exert its physiological and pathophysiological functions. Endogenous histamine is the main mediator of the immediate allergic response, which moreover, performs other multiple functions, including regulation of gastric secretion, neurotransmission in the central nervous system, and immunomodulatory activity. The involvement of histamine in various disorders an...

LTP allergy/sensitization in a pediatric population.
Abstract Plant lipid transfer proteins (LTPs) are widespread plant food allergens, highly resistant to food processing and to the gastrointestinal environment, which have been described as the most common food allergens in the Mediterranean area. LTP allergy is widely described in adults, but it represents an emerging allergen also in the pediatric population. Little is known about the real prevalence and the clinical features of this allergy in children and it still often remains underdiagnosed in these patients. An early identification and a deeper knowledge of this allergy in childhood can avoid severe systemic...

Disagreement between guidelines regarding the third step of asthma drug therapy for school-age children.
Abstract With the help of a routine clinical case, we highlighted the difference between two of the best asthma guidelines available at the time regarding therapeutic suggestions for the so-called "third step" for school-age asthmatic children. However, the question of disagreement between two guidelines remains unresolved. This can lead to unjustified differences in the management of schoolchildren with persistent asthma. PMID: 3237102...

Tidal flow-volume loops (TFVL) are easy to perform in infants, and sedation is not necessary. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 216 wheezing infants were successfully measured, and 183 of them were followed for over a year. TFVL loops were classified into one of three categories depending of their geometric shape (symmetric, convex, and concave). Bibliometric analysis of publications on house dust mites during 1980-2018.
CONCLUSION: According to the findings, developed countries were the most productive in publishing on house dust mites. By planning multinational research rather than regional studies, it may be suggested that researchers in underdeveloped or developing countries could also conduct more research on this subject. Divergent trends in the prevalence of asthma-like symptoms and asthma in a developing country: three repeated surveys between 2002 and 2016.
Abstract INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVES: There have been differences in temporal trends of asthma prevalence by geographic region and economic prosperity. The aim of this study was to assess temporal trends in asthma prevalence among young adolescents in Skopje, Republic of North Macedonia as a developing country with a low asthma prevalence. SUBJECTS AND METHODS: Data was obtained from three cross-sectional surveys (2002, 2006, and 2016) of adolescents (12-15 years) from randomly selected schools in Skopje. Trends in the prevalence of asthma and asthma-like symptoms were investigated descriptively and using mul...

Identification of the major allergenic proteins from silkworm moth (Bombyx mori) involved in respiratory allergic diseases.
CONCLUSION: Six major reactive proteins by immunoblot analysis from moth's wings sensitized patients can be potential allergens. The one at 80 kDa is the major protein, seen in all IgE-reactive patients from group 1 and in none from group 2, yet to be identified. Future studies should be conducted to better characterize these proteins. PMID: 32284266 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher] (Source: Allergologia et Immunopathologia)

Evaluation of miR-196a2 expression and Annexin A1 level in children with bronchial asthmaEvaluation of miR-196a2 expression and Annexin A1 level in children.
CONCLUSIONS: Altered miR-196a2 expression and serum ANXA1 concentration may play a role in the pathogenesis of asthma. In addition, ANXA1 and miR-196a2 may represent potential diagnostic biomarkers for asthma and future targets for therapy.
