Biventricular pacemaker therapy improves exercise capacity in patients with non ‐obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy via augmented diastolic filling on exercise
ConclusionSymptomatic patients with non ‐obstructive HCM may benefit from BiV pacing via augmentation of diastolic filling on exercise rather than contractile improvement. This may be due to relief of diastolic ventricular interaction.Clinical Trial Registration:ClinicalTrials.gov NCT00504647.

Methamphetamine ‐related cardiovascular diseases
ConclusionsAwareness is needed as cardiac complications are important causes of morbidity and mortality in patients with MA consumption. Drug abstinence is the mainstay of therapy, cardiac and other complications should be treated according to the respective guidelines. Incompliance to therapy and frequent relapses are the main challenges for successful treatment. Further research is required to improve the understanding of this rapidly increasing cardiomyopathy.

Epidemiology and Clinical Characteristics of Atrial Fibrillation in Patients with Inherited Heart Diseases
ConclusionUp to one third of inherited heart disease patients will develop AF. While common general population risk factors are key in patients with HCM, genotype is independently associated with AF. Amongst inherited arrhythmia syndromes, AF is less common, though often occurs below the age of 50 years. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.

Management of patients with newly-diagnosed atrial fibrillation: Insights from the BALKAN-AF survey
ConclusionsIn BALKAN-AF survey, patients with newly-diagnosed AF were more often hospitalized, less often received OAC and were more likely to receive SAPT alone. The use of OAC for stroke prevention has not been driven by the individual patient stroke risk.

Comparison of expected and observed outcomes for septal myectomy in hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy
ConclusionsSeptal myectomy, performed in a tertiary referral center, had a 30-day mortality rate of 0% and low morbidity rate. There was no difference between observed myectomy mortality and STS Calculator predicted risk for AVR and MV repair. It is possible that a larger sample could reveal lower mortality than STS prediction.

In ‐hospital ventricular arrhythmia in heart failure patients: 7 year follow‐up of the multi‐centric HEARTS registry
ConclusionsLower mean age of VA complicated HF patients is a matter of concern in the Saudi population. HF associated with VA increased in ‐hospital events and all‐cause mortality indicating poor prognosis and survival. These findings enable risk stratification and reflect on the importance of early recognition of the clinical markers and predictors of VA prompting immediate management.

Transcatheter InterAtrial shunt device for the treatment of heart failure: Rationale and Design of the Pivotal Randomized Trial to REDUCE elevated left atrial pressure in patients with heart failure II (REDUCE LAP-HF II)
ConclusionsREDUCE LAP-HF II is designed to evaluate the clinical efficacy of the IASD device in patients with symptomatic HF with elevated LA pressure and LVEF≥40%.

Sex-specific Cardiac Phenotype and Clinical Outcomes in Patients with Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy
ConclusionsOur results suggest that sex-specific differences in LV geometry, hyper-contractility and diastolic function, not greater degree of LV myopathy, contribute to a higher, age-independent risk of diastolic HF in women with HCM.Graphical abstract

A review of the epidemiology of atrial fibrillation in Sub ‐Saharan Africa
In conclusion, AF seems to have a higher prevalence in the general population than previously thought, and is mostly associa ted with hypertension, cardiomyopathy and rheumatic heart disease in SSA. It is associated with a high incidence of heart failure and stroke. The management of AF is suboptimal in SSA, especially with a low uptake of oral anticoagulation. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.

Efficacy and safety of direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) versus vitamin K antagonist (VKA) among patients with atrial fibrillation and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
Conclusions: The current study found that the risk of all-cause death was significantly reduced but the risk of ischaemic stroke, major bleeding and intracranial bleeding were not significantly different between patients with AF and HCM who had received DOACs and those who received VKA. Approach to Management of Premature Ventricular Contractions
AbstractPurpose of reviewPremature ventricular contractions (PVCs) are arrhythmias with presentation ranging from asymptomatic and benign to symptomatic, frequent and capable of inducing cardiomyopathy. Work in the late 1970s –1980s showed that they could be representative of underlying coronary artery disease, hypertension, or left ventricular hypertrophy. Furthermore, their presence is independently linked to an increased risk of stroke and sudden cardiac death. Since characterization of PVC-induced cardiomyopathy 21  years ago, there has been progressive interest in treating PVCs. This review aims to present an appro...
