3-Year outcomes after left atrial appendage closure in patients with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation: cardiomyopathy related with increased death and stroke rate
Left atrial appendage closure (LAAC) is a novel treatment for stroke prevention in high-risk patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF). However, the long-term outcomes after LAAC in Chinese NVAF pa...

The role of miRNAs in insulin resistance and diabetic macrovascular complications - A review
Int J Biol Macromol. 2023 Jan 6:123189. doi: 10.1016/j.ijbiomac.2023.123189. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDiabetes is the most prevalent metabolic disturbance disease and has been regarded globally as one of the principal causes of mortality. Diabetes is accompanied by several macrovascular complications, including stroke, coronary artery disease (CAD), and cardiomyopathy as a consequence of atherosclerosis. The onset of type 2 diabetes is closely related to insulin resistance (IR). miRNAs have been linked to various metabolic processes, including glucose homeostasis, regulation of lipid metabolism, gluconeogenesis, adipo...

Biventricular Noncompaction Cardiomyopathy in a Patient Presenting With a New Cerebrovascular Event
Noncompaction (NC) cardiomyopathy (NCCM) is a rare, genetically heterogeneous cardiomyopathy (CM) caused by failure to compact the intertrabecular recesses of the myocardium. This condition usually affects the apical segment of the left ventricle, yet there are noted basal segment, biventricular, and right ventricular predominant cases. NCCM is largely diagnosed in the pediatric population; however, there is increasing recognition in older patients with heart failure and stroke and patients with arrhythmias.

Normal and excessive muscle sympathetic nerve activity in heart failure: implications for future trials of therapeutic autonomic modulation
ConclusionBurst frequency and incidence exceeded normative values in only ~53% and ~33% of patients. Such diversity encourages selective deployment of sympatho-modulatory therapies. Clinical characteristics can highlight individuals who may benefit from future personalized interventions targeting pathological sympathetic activation.

Role of CHA2DS2-VASc score in predicting atrial fibrillation recurrence in patients undergoing pulmonary vein isolation with cryoballoon ablation
ConclusionsPVI-C is highly effective in the treatment of AF over the long term. A CHA2DS2-VASc score  ≥ 2 is an independent predictor of AF recurrence during the follow-up and should be considered during the clinical management after the index procedure.

Sex Differences in Characteristics, Outcomes and Treatment Response with Dapagliflozin across the Range of Ejection Fraction in Patients with Heart Failure: Insights from DAPA-HF and DELIVER
CONCLUSIONS: In DAPA-HF and DELIVER, the response to dapagliflozin was similar between men and women. Sex did not modify the treatment effect of dapagliflozin across the range of ejection fraction.PMID:36342789 | DOI:10.1161/CIRCULATIONAHA.122.062832
