Biventricular Thrombi Associated with Cardiac Systolic Dysfunction and Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation from Heat Stroke
We report the case of a patient who was treated with anticoagulation therapy only, without surgical intervention.PMID:33994503 | DOI:10.1536/ihj.20-558

Outcomes in patients with anthracycline ‐induced cardiomyopathy undergoing left ventricular assist devices implantation
ConclusionsAfter receiving a CF-LVAD, survival in patients with anthracycline-induced cardiomyopathy is similar to those with ICM or IDM. Further research into differential secondary endpoints-related disparities is warranted.

A mid ‐ventricular variant of Takotsubo syndrome: was it triggered by insular cortex damage?
We report the case of a 79 ‐year‐old female diagnosed with a mid‐ventricular variant of TTS concomitant with right IC ischaemic stroke. After 12 h of hospitalization, she experienced a sudden collapse. Rapid cardiopulmonary resuscitation resulted in a return of spontaneous circulation. Subsequent left ventriculography revealed akinesis in the mid‐portion of the left ventricle with vigorous contraction of the basal and apex segment. Two weeks after admission, cardiac ultrasound showed improved left ventricular contraction. Right IC ischaemia in this patient might have been associated with a dysregulation of the CAN...

Echocardiographic diagnosis of atrial cardiomyopathy allows outcome prediction following pulmonary vein isolation
ConclusionThe echocardiographic parameters LA-EF and LAS allow accurate, non-invasive diagnosis of ACM and prediction of arrhythmia recurrence after PVI.Graphic abstract

Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Complications With COVID-19
The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 has affected the health of people across the globe. Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) have a significant relationship with COVID-19, both as a risk factor and prognostic indicator, and as a complication of the disease itself. In addition to predisposing to CVD complications, the ongoing pandemic has severely affected the delivery of timely and appropriate care for cardiovascular conditions resulting in increased mortality. The etiology behind the cardiac injury associated with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 i...

Prognostic impact of newly detected atrial fibrillation in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy following cardiac implantable electronic device implantation
In conclusion, the incidence of newly detected AF after CIED implantations in HCM patients was high. The newly detected AF was associated with worsening heart failure and careful follow-up is recommended.

Modification of ventriculo –arterial coupling by spironolactone in nonischemic dilated cardiomyopathy
ConclusionsIn NIDCM, adding MRA to conventional anti ‐failure therapy markedly improved LV ejection fraction and reduced peripheral vascular resistance, due to both improved LV contractility and especially to enhanced V–A coupling, as Ea decreased to normal. Total circulatory performance was a sensitive indicator of both LV pump performance and th e arterial loading conditions.

The prevalence, predictors, and outcomes of spontaneous echocardiographic contrast or left ventricular thrombus in patients with HFrEF
ConclusionsIn patients with HFrEF, SEC was not uncommon and increased risk of ischaemic stroke as well as LVT. Anticoagulants could play a role in the reduction of stroke risk, suggesting that patients with SEC/LVT, even those in sinus rhythm, would benefit from systemic anticoagulation treatment.

Clinical characteristics and outcomes in childhood-onset hypertrophic cardiomyopathy
ConclusionPatients with childhood-onset HCM are more likely to have sarcomeric disease, carry a higher risk of life-threatening ventricular arrythmias, and have greater need for advanced HF therapies. These findings provide insight into the natural history of disease and can help inform clinical risk stratification.

Management and outcomes of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy in young adults
CONCLUSIONS: In young adults with HCM, MACE are common in the short term, especially in obstructive HCM and women, mostly arrhythmic in origin. Prophylactic ICD implantation is frequent and does not strictly follow the guidelines, while the use of European/USA guidelines is helpful but imperfect in identifying SCD risk.PMID:33744178 | DOI:10.1016/j.acvd.2020.12.006
