Impact of Stroke Call on the Stroke Neurology Workforce in the United States: Possible Challenges and Opportunities
The Stroke& Vascular Neurology Section of the American Academy of Neurology was charged to identify challenges to the recruitment and retention of stroke neurologists and to make recommendations to address any identified problems. The Section initiated this effort by determining the impact of stroke on-call requirements as a barrier to the recruitment and retention of vascular neurologists.

3D Technology helps stroke victims' rehab
Sometimes, simple solutions to problems turn up in unlikely places. Researchers from Sweden are drawing inspiration from the movie industry to improve rehabilitation for stroke patients. Motion capture technology, used by filmmakers to convert people's movements into computer animations, has been enlisted to analyze the everyday movements of stroke patients and help them achieve more from their rehab. Researchers from the Sahlgrenska Academy, University of Gothenburg, claim the 3D animations provide a new level of detail about stroke victims' mobility.

Shingles rash linked to higher risk of stroke
Shingles, the nerve rash in adulthood caused by reactivation of the chickenpox virus, is an independent risk factor for stroke and other blood clot events, the largest study to confirm the association has found.Publishing their findings in Neurology, the journal of the American Academy of Neurology, the researchers found that shingles was a risk factor for stroke and transient ischemic attack (TIA, a mini-stroke).The increased risk was independent of other factors known to raise the chances of vascular events, including obesity, smoking and high cholesterol.

For every 5 quality years of life, 3 are taken away for people who have had a stroke, long-term research has found - a loss of 60%. The study, published in Neurology, the journal of the American Academy of Neurology, involved 1,188 patients - 748 who had a stroke and 440 who had a transient ischemic attack (TIA). In summary, SSS extraction significantly ameliorates cerebral energy metabolism via boosting citrate cycle, which mainly embodies the enhancements of blood glucose concentration, glucose and lactate transportation and glucose utilization, as well as the regulations of relative enzymes activities in citrate cycle. Overweight teen boys have increased risk of stroke in later life
Conclusion
The findings of this large longitudinal cohort study seem to demonstrate a link between being overweight aged 20 and an increased risk of stroke.
This risk was regardless of whether the boy had been overweight aged 8 or not. There seemed to be no increased risk for boys who were overweight aged 8 but were a normal weight by the age of 20.
The study was conducted before the obesity epidemic, and might be even more relevant today.
