Moving with music for stroke rehabilitation: a sonification feasibility study
We present a novel musical sonification therapy especially designed to retrain gross‐motor functions. Four stroke patients were included in a clinical pre–post feasibility study and were trained with our sonification training. Patients’ upper‐extremity functions and their psychological states were assessed before and after training. The four patients were subdivided into two groups, with both groups receiving 9 days of musical sonification therapy (music group, MG) or a sham sonification training (control group, CG). The only difference between these training protocols was that, in the CG, no sound was played back....

Nogo receptor blockade overcomes remyelination failure after white matter stroke and stimulates functional recovery in aged mice Neuroscience
White matter stroke is a distinct stroke subtype, accounting for up to 25% of stroke and constituting the second leading cause of dementia. The biology of possible tissue repair after white matter stroke has not been determined. In a mouse stroke model, white matter ischemia causes focal damage and adjacent...

Use of direct oral anticoagulants for stroke prevention in elderly patients with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation
ConclusionsDOACs are at least as effective as warfarin for stroke prevention in elderly patients with NVAF. Compared with warfarin, DOACs were associated with reduced risk of intracranial hemorrhage, while some DOACs demonstrated an increase in other bleeding events (e.g., gastrointestinal). The faster onset and offset of action and fewer food and drug interactions of DOACs may be an advantage over warfarin for some patients. Implications for practiceDOACs are an alternative to warfarin with overall equivalent safety and efficacy in elderly patients with NVAF, and may be preferable for some. Stroke risk must always be bala...

Female caregivers and stroke severity determines caregiver stress in stroke patients
Conclusion: Our study showed that caregiving burden was predominantly shouldered by females CGs. CGs faced physical, psychological, and socioeconomic burden. The burden was more evident in female CGs and in patients with severe stroke.

Aspirin and clopidogrel resistance in Indian patients with ischemic stroke and its associations with gene polymorphisms: A pilot study
Conclusion: Unlike aspirin, a high proportion of nonresponders to clopidogrel was identified. In an interim analysis on 65 Indian patients, a significant association was found between CYP2C19*2 and clopidogrel nonresponsiveness.

The Management of Stroke Rehabilitation: A Synopsis of the 2019 U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and U.S. Department of Defense Clinical Practice Guideline.
Abstract Description: In June 2019, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) approved an update of the joint clinical practice guideline for rehabilitation after stroke. This synopsis summarizes the key recommendations from this guideline. Methods: In February 2018, the VA/DoD Evidence-Based Practice Work Group convened a joint VA/DoD guideline development effort that included clinical stakeholders and stroke survivors and conformed to the National Academy of Medicine (formerly the Institute of Medicine) tenets for trustworthy clinical practice guidelines. The guidelin...

Role of 24-hr blood pressure variability as a target therapeutic risk factor for poor functional outcome of acute ischemic stroke
Conclusions: Reduction in BP variability might have a beneficial impact on the outcome of patients with acute ischemic stroke. There is further scope to explore optimum therapeutic strategies to minimize BPV in the management of acute ischemic stroke.

Routing to Endovascular Treatment of Ischemic Stroke in Korea: Recognition of Need for Process Improvement.
CONCLUSION: Two-thirds of EVT candidates were initially routed to PSHs despite greater chance of receiving EVT and having favorable outcomes if routed to a TCH in Korea. Process improvement is needed to direct appropriate patients to TCHs. PMID: 33107228 [PubMed - in process]

Utility of transcranial magnetic stimulation and diffusion tensor imaging for prediction of upper-limb motor recovery in acute ischemic stroke patients
Conclusion: The accuracy of UL motor recovery can be predicted through the clinical battery and their elements as well as TMS (MEP) and DTI (FA) parameters. Further, well-designed prospective studies are needed to confirm our findings.

A study of the correlation between stroke and gut microbiota over the last 20years: a bibliometric analysis
ConclusionFindings suggest that in the next 10 years, the number of publications produced annually may increase significantly. Future research trends tend to concentrate on the mechanisms of stroke and gut microbiota, with the inflammation and immunological mechanisms, TMAO, and fecal transplantation as hotspots. And the relationship between these mechanisms and a particular cardiovascular illness may also be a future research trend.

Study to assess the effectiveness of modified constraint-induced movement therapy in stroke subjects: A randomized controlled trial
Conclusion: There is a significant improvem ent in upper extremity function so it indicates that m-CIMT is effective in improving the motor function of the affected arm in stroke subjects. However, its long-term effect has not proved since there was no follow-up after intervention.
