Mobile Application as a Learning Aid for Nurses and Nursing Students to Identify and Care for Stroke Patients: Pretest and Posttest Results.
In this study, a total of 115 nurses from health services in the South of Brazil and 35 nursing students of a community university participated. The stages focused on development, modeling of clinical cases, problem-based learning, pretest (before) app use, and posttest (after) use of the app. The results of the pretest and posttest corrections showed a substantial statistical difference (P < .001), indicating a significant knowledge gain after the use of the app, particularly in terms of the detection scales and interpretation of the imaging tests. The mSmartAVC app used at the bedside supported decision-making for det...

The Impact of Online Learning System on Students Affected with Stroke Disease
Behav Neurol. 2022 Feb 7;2022:4847066. doi: 10.1155/2022/4847066. eCollection 2022.ABSTRACTStroke, also known as a cerebrovascular accident, is a medical emergency that causes temporary or permanent behavioral dysfunction in people. Sleep deprivation affects our brains in a variety of ways. The advantages of sleep much justify the risks of not having enough sleep. Sleep deprivation (SD) includes a variety of factors, including prolonged awake. Neuroimaging investigates SD's impact on attention, working memory, mood, and hippocampal learning. We analyzed how this data enriches our mechanistic understanding of these alterati...

Gamification of the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) for simulation training-a feasibility study
CONCLUSION: Game-based digital simulation training is a feasible alternative to standard in-person simulation training to acquire competence in NIHSS assessment. Gamification seemed to give an incentive to simulate considerably more and to perform the assessment faster, with equal accuracy.TRIAL REGISTRATION: The study was approved by the Norwegian Centre for Research Data (reference no. 543238).PMID:36810284 | DOI:10.1186/s41077-023-00245-4

Orally Administered Crocin Protects Against Cerebral Ischemia/Reperfusion Injury Through the Metabolic Transformation of Crocetin by Gut Microbiota
Conclusion Collectively, pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic association studies provide evidence that the gut microbiota plays a vital role in the fate of crocin and crocetin in the gastrointestinal tract. In addition, the cross-interaction between gut microbiota and crocin might mediate the activation of the cerebral-protective effect of orally administered crocin. Ethics Statement This study was carried out in accordance with the recommendations of ‘Institutional Animal Research Committee guidelines, Animal Ethics Committee of China Pharmaceutical University.’ The protocol was approved by the ‘An...

Epidemiology of Cerebrovascular Disease among Chinese Canadians with Diabetes
Conclusion Chinese Canadians with diabetes who had ischemic strokes were especially susceptible to intracranial small vessel disease compared with non-Chinese Canadians. These results signify that risk factor prevalence and stroke types differ considerably between Chinese Canadians and non-Chinese Canadians residing in Toronto, warranting further study.

IJERPH, Vol. 15, Pages 2615: Reduced Risks of Both Ischemic and Hemorrhagic Strokes in Nurses: A Population-Based Cohort Study in Taiwan
Conclusion: The risks of both stroke types were lower in the nurse group than in the control. For stroke prevention, more frequent physical examinations are needed in order to enhance the health and well-being of people, including the nurses.

Utility of digital subtraction angiography ‐based collateral evaluation in medically treated acute symptomatic basilar artery stenosis
ConclusionsThe DSA‐based collateral scoring of the BA large branches might predict long‐term outcome in medically treated symptomatic basilar artery stenosis with mild initial severity. Evaluation of BA collateral perfusion status might be useful to determine appropriate treatment strategies.
