Experiences of patients who had a stroke and rehabilitation professionals with upper limb rehabilitation robots: a qualitative systematic review protocol
Introduction Emerging evidence suggests that robotic devices for upper limb rehabilitation after a stroke may improve upper limb function. For robotic upper limb rehabilitation in stroke to be successful, patients’ experiences and those of the rehabilitation professionals must be considered. Therefore, this review aims to synthesise the available evidence on experiences of patients after a stroke with rehabilitation robots for upper limb rehabilitation and the experiences of rehabilitation professionals with rehabilitation robots for upper limb stroke rehabilitation. Methods and analysis Database search will include...

Endovascular Stroke Therapy Results Improve over Time: The ‘Learning Curve' at a New Comprehensive Stoke Center
Conclusions: At a new community-based CSC, improved outcome occurred from year 1 to year 2, and trends towards decreased mortality, fewer complications, and improved revascularization were observed. Furthermore, the data shows that improvement in NIHSS score after EST is associated with decreased mortality following stroke in this setting, implying a net benefit.Cerebrovasc Dis Extra 2014;4:235-242

A Novel Method for Measuring Oxidative Stress in Patients with Stroke Symptoms (S52.005)
CONCLUSIONS: These results demonstrate the ability of ORP to identify oxidative stress and amount of antioxidant reserves in a stroke population. We propose ORP monitoring as a potentially useful tool in evaluation of acute stroke patients.Disclosure: Dr. Wagner has received personal compensation for activities with Genentech, Inc. Trunk kinematics related to generation and  transfer of the trunk flexor momentum are associated with sit-to-stand performance in chronic stroke survivors.
CONCLUSIONS: The poorer STS performance in stroke survivors is associated to the kinematic changes of the trunk related to the poorer ability to generate/transfer the trunk flexor momentum. PMID: 27792018 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

The impact of Value Incentive Program (VIP) on the quality of hospital care for acute stroke in Korea
Conclusion This study demonstrated that the VIP was effective in improving quality of acute stroke care. The improvement was more prominent in general hospitals, and led to reduced quality gaps among hospitals.

Reducing Stroke Risk Among Young Adult African Americans: A Feasibility Study
Abstract African Americans are disproportionately affected by stroke and its modifiable risk factors, and strategies are needed to help African Americans adopt healthy lifestyles early in life. The purpose of this study was to assess the feasibility of the Stroke Counseling for Risk Reduction (SCORRE) intervention, a tailored, theory‐based intervention consisting of a motivational video of young African American stroke survivors, the American Heart Association's Life's Simple 7® (LS7) risk assessment and education tool, and a 6‐week behavioral risk reduction diary. Feasibility and changes in theoretical variables were...

Stroke awareness in Korean high school students
This study was the first to investigate the basic knowledge of Korean adolescents about stroke and evaluate the improvement of this knowledge after an educational lecture. In total, 1269 high school students were instructed on the risk factors, symptoms, diagnosis, and management of stroke. Knowledge was evaluated before education (Pre-E), immediately after the lecture (Post-E1), and during a 2-week follow-up (Post-E2), using a questionnaire. Overall, we found that students ’ knowledge increased after the educational session. On the questionnaire section pertaining to stroke risk factors, out of nine possible points, the...

Promoting Evidence-Based Practice at a Primary Stroke Center: A Nurse Education Strategy
Background: Promoting a culture of evidence-based practice within a health care facility is a priority for health care leaders and nursing professionals; however, tangible methods to promote translation of evidence to bedside practice are lacking. Objectives: The purpose of this quality improvement project was to design and implement a nursing education intervention demonstrating to the bedside nurse how current evidence-based guidelines are used when creating standardized stroke order sets at a primary stroke center, thereby increasing confidence in the use of standardized order sets at the point of care and supporting e...

Decreased stroke risk with combined traditional Chinese and western medicine in patients with ischemic heart disease: A real-world evidence
Both ischemic heart disease (IHD) and stroke are major causes of death worldwide. We investigated the effects of combined Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and western medicine (WM) on stroke risk in IHD patients. Taiwanese patients with IHD were enrolled in the TCM study during their outpatient visit. Stroke events after TCM or non-TCM treatment were examined. Chi-square tests and Student t-tests were used to examine differences between patients using and not using TCM. The Cox proportional hazards regression model was used to estimate hazard ratios (HRs). Sex, age, and comorbidities were included in a multivariable Cox...

Predictive factors of severity and persistence of oropharyngeal dysphagia in sub-acute stroke
ConclusionIn the sub-acute phase of stroke, the predictive factors of persistent dysphagia are not linked to the damaged neuroanatomical region and others factors such as NIHSS value and high PAS score seem more useful.

Outcomes of Patients Receiving Thrombolysis in a Mobile Stroke Unit: a 4-Year Retrospective, Observational, Single-Center Study
Conclusions. AIS patients received thrombolysis faster in the MSU compared with EMS and more frequently within 60 minutes of stroke onset. Point estimates for 90-day clinical outcomes of AIS patients treated with thrombolysis favored MSU without a statistically significant difference.PMID:36357362 | DOI:10.1080/10903127.2022.2142991
