A Genetic Variant in GOLGB1 Affects Golgi Function and Stroke Risk in Patients with Sickle Cell Disease
Conclusions: Our study has shown that a coding variant in GOLGB1, identified as protective against risk of stroke in patients with SCD, has significant effects on Golgi function in SCD samples. We observed that having the GOLGB1 Y1212C variant resulted in more compact and less fragmented Golgi apparatus. Proteomic analysis showed that SCD patients with the GOLGB1 variant also had significantly lower levels of proteins involved in platelet activation and Golgi trafficking. The association between children ’s common Chinese stroke errors and spelling ability
AbstractThe present study adopted an error analysis approach to examine the stroke errors committed by 43 Hong Kong Chinese children of Grades 1 and 3 from a Chinese Character Copying Task. It aimed to determine the common stroke error patterns, developmental changes and the cognitive problems implied. The different types of stroke errors and total number of correct stroke sequence were further linked to Chinese word spelling ability and associated cognitive-linguistic skills. Stroke Recurrence in Children with Vertebral Artery Dissecting Aneurysm PEDIATRICS
CONCLUSIONS:
Vertebral artery dissecting aneurysm is often missed on the initial diagnostic evaluation of children presenting with stroke. In children with vertebral artery dissection, the presence of an aneurysm is associated with stroke presentation at a younger age and stroke recurrence.

Inspiratory muscular weakness is most evident in chronic stroke survivors with lower walking speeds.
Conclusion: Stroke subjects demonstrated weakness of the respiratory muscles and lower predicted MIP values were found for the non-community ambulators. Clinical rehabilitation impact: Evaluations and interventions involving respiratory muscular training could be included in stroke rehabilitation, especially for individuals with lower functional levels.

Promoting Evidence-Based Practice at a Primary Stroke Center: A Nurse Education Strategy.
DISCUSSION: This nurse education strategy increased RNs' confidence in ability to explain the path from evidence to bedside nursing care by demonstrating how evidence-based clinical practice guidelines provide current evidence used to create standardized order sets. Although further evaluation of the intervention's effectiveness is needed, this educational intervention has the potential for generalization to different types of standardized order sets to increase nurse confidence in utilization of evidence-based practice.

Cincinnati Prehospital Stroke Scale Can Identify Large Vessel Occlusion Stroke.
CONCLUSIONS: A CPSS score of 3 reliably identifies LVO in AIS patients. EMS providers may be able to use the CPSS, a simple, widely adopted prehospital stroke assessment tool, with a cut-off score to screen for patients with suspected LVO.

The Influence of β-Adrenergic Receptor Kinase-1 on Stroke-induced Immunodeficiency Syndrome
The objective was to quantify the influence of lymphocyte BARK-1 on stroke-induced immunodeficiency in AIS patients.
Methods:
A prospective clinical cohort study was conducted (N = 44). Measures included age, gender, race, risk factors for stroke, stroke severity, comorbidities, presence of infection, white blood cell counts and differential proportions, and lymphocyte BARK-1. Student t tests, effect sizes, and linear and logistic regressions were conducted to test the study objective. The study was approved by the Oregon Health & Science University Institutional Review Board.
