AbstractA right-handed woman in her 80s was admitted to the emergency department 1 h after sudden-onset global aphasia and right-sided hemiparesis. Medical history included arterial hypertension, dyslipidemia, hyperuricemia, aortic stenosis, osteoporosis, and recent pulmonary embolism. Medication consisted of apixaban, bisoprolol, hydrochlorothiazide, allopurinol, fenofibrate, and vitamin D. Ezetimibe for the prevention of cardiovascular disease and all-cause mortality events.
CONCLUSIONS: Moderate- to high-quality evidence suggests that ezetimibe has modest beneficial effects on the risk of CVD endpoints, primarily driven by a reduction in non-fatal MI and non-fatal stroke, but it has little or no effect on clinical fatal endpoints. The cardiovascular benefit of ezetimibe might involve the reduction of LDL-C, total cholesterol and triglycerides. Analysis of genetic and nongenetic factors influencing triglycerides-lowering drug effects based on paired observations
In this study, we assessed both genetic and nongenetic factors that influence drug responses and stratified patients into groups based on differential drug effect and sensitivity. Our methodology of investigating genetic factors and nongenetic factors is applicable to studying differential effects of other drugs, such as statins, and provides an approach to the development of personalized medicine.

Fenofibrate attenuates cardiac and renal alterations in young salt-loaded spontaneously hypertensive stroke-prone rats through mitochondrial protection
Conclusion: The results suggest that the cardiorenal protective effects of fenofibrate in young male salt-loaded SHRSPs are explained by its capacity to preserve mitochondrial function.

Fibrates for secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease and stroke.
CONCLUSIONS: Moderate evidence showed that the fibrate class can be effective in the secondary prevention of composite outcome of non-fatal stroke, non-fatal MI, and vascular death. However, this beneficial effect relies on the inclusion of clofibrate data, a drug that was discontinued in 2002 due to its unacceptably large adverse effects. Further trials of the use of fibrates in populations with previous stroke and also against a background treatment with statins (standard of care) are required. ConclusionsThe data may indicate that in people with Type 2 diabetes, which is associated with higher alanine aminotransferase levels because of prevalent non‐alcoholic fatty liver disease, a low alanine aminotransferase level is a marker of hepatic or systemic frailty rather than health.This article is protected by copyright. The role of PPAR activation during the systemic response to brain injury
Conclusions: The data highlight a novel mechanism of action for fenofibrate and lend further evidence towards the promotion of its use as a prophylactic therapy in patients at risk of cerebral ischaemia. Further research is required to elucidate the mechanistic explanation underlying its actions.
