The Dutch Audit of Carotid Interventions: Transparency in Quality of Carotid Endarterectomy in Symptomatic Patients in the Netherlands.
CONCLUSION: CEA in The Netherlands is associated with an overall low mortality and (major) stroke/death rate. Whereas the indicator time to intervention varied between hospitals, mortality and (major) stroke/death were not significantly distinctive enough to identify worse practices and therefore were unsuitable for hospital comparison in the Dutch setting. Additionally, predictors of major stroke/death at population level could be identified.

Red blood cell transfusion in patients with ST-elevation myocardial infarction-a  meta-analysis of more than 21,000 patients.
CONCLUSIONS: Red blood cell transfusion increases the morbidity and mortality in patients with STEMI. This difference could not be explained by the higher morbidity in the red blood cell transfusion group alone. Further randomised controlled trials are required to provide a reliable haemoglobin threshold for these patients.

The Dutch Parelsnoer Institute-Cerebrovascular accident (CVA) Study is part of the Parelsnoer Institute (PSI), initiated in 2007 by the Netherlands Federation of University Medical Centers (NFU). PSI is a cooperation of all eight Dutch University Medical Centers (UMCs) and aims at building large prospectively collected datasets with uniformly and standardized storage of biomaterials for complex diseases. Cerebral microbleeds and intracranial haemorrhage risk in patients anticoagulated for atrial fibrillation after acute ischaemic stroke or transient ischaemic attack (CROMIS-2): a multicentre observational cohort study

Trends in patient characteristics and clinical outcome over 8 Â years of transcatheter aortic valve implantation.
CONCLUSION: A clear shift towards a lower-risk TAVI population and improved clinical outcome was observed over an 8‑year period. Survival after TAVI improved impressively, mainly as a consequence of decreased 30-day mortality.

One-year efficacy and safety of routine prasugrel in patients with acute coronary syndromes treated with percutaneous coronary intervention: results of the prospective rijnmond collective cardiology research study.
CONCLUSIONS: In routine practice, a tailored approach of prasugrel prescription in ACS patients undergoing PCI, resulted in low ischaemic and low bleeding rates up to 1 year post PCI.

Cost-Effectiveness Analysis of the DiagnOSAS Screening Tool Compared With Polysomnography Diagnosis in Dutch Primary Care
Conclusions:DiagnOSAS appears to be a cost-saving alternative for the usual OSA diagnostic strategy in The Netherlands. Value of Quantitative Collateral Scoring on CT Angiography in Patients with Acute Ischemic Stroke ADULT BRAIN
CONCLUSIONS:
Automated quantitative collateral scoring in patients with acute ischemic stroke is a reliable and user-independent measure of the collateral capacity on baseline CTA and has the potential to augment the triage of patients with acute stroke for endovascular therapy.

Philips, AHA, UPMC launch $30m heart-focused venture fund
Royal Philips (NYSE:PHG) said late last week it is joining with the American Heart Association and UPMC to launch a $30 million heart-focused collaborative venture capital fund.
The newly formed Cardeation Capital fund will support innovation in products for treating heart disease and stroke care. The fund will be managed by Aphelion Capital, with each major player contributing $10 million, Amsterdam-based Philips said.
Cardeation Capital will look to invest in companies trying to treat cardiovascular diseases and stroke and their risk factors, including diabetes, according to Philips.

Wake-Up Stroke versus Stroke with Known Onset Time: Clinical and Multimodality CT Imaging Characteristics
Conclusions: There are only minor differences between clinical and imaging characteristics of WUS patients and patients who arrive in the hospital within the time criteria for intravenous or endovascular treatment.
