Viruses, Vol. 16, Pages 21: Isolation and Pathogenicity Analysis of a G5P[23] Porcine Rotavirus Strain
Conclusions: The isolated G5P[23] genotype rotavirus strain, which exhibited strong pathogenicity in piglets, may have resulted from recombination between porcine and human strains. It may serve as a potential candidate strain for developing vaccines, and its immunogenicity can be tested in future studies. (Source: Viruses)

Detection of parechovirus A in respiratory, gastrointestinal, and neurological clinical samples of pediatric patients from Panama (2014-2015)
Virol J. 2023 Dec 19;20(1):302. doi: 10.1186/s12985-023-02268-9.ABSTRACTParechovirus A (PeV-A, Parechovirus, Picornaviridae) are human pathogens associated with mild to severe gastrointestinal and respiratory diseases in young children. While several studies have investigated the association of PeV-A with human disease, little is known about its epidemiology or detection in Latin America. Between the years 2014 and 2015, a total of 200 samples were collected from Panamanian pediatric patients aged < 16 years old exhibiting symptoms associated with respiratory (n = 64), gastrointestinal (n = 68), or neurological (n = 68)...

The success of publicly funded rotavirus vaccine programs for preventing community- and hospital-acquired rotavirus infections in Canadian pediatric hospitals: an observational study
CMAJ Open. 2023 Dec 19;11(6):E1156-E1163. doi: 10.9778/cmajo.20220245. Print 2023 Nov-Dec.ABSTRACTBACKGROUND: Canadian immunization programs for rotavirus started in 2011. We sought to determine their effect on the burden of community-acquired admissions and hospital-acquired rotavirus at pediatric hospitals.METHODS: The Canadian Immunization Monitoring Program Active (IMPACT) network conducted active surveillance for rotavirus-positive hospital admissions between 2005 and 2020 at 12 pediatric hospitals. We used yearly rates of community-acquired rotavirus per 10 000 admissions and hospital-acquired rotavirus infections pe...
