Postdoctoral fellowship at baylor (ben taub hospital)
Has anyone heard anything generally about the psychology service at Ben Taub Hospital/Baylor College or Medicine or their psychology postdoctoral fellowship (e.g., culture of the program, quality of training/supervision, work life balance)? It’s the Adult Inpatient/Outpatient Track. What do people think about that versus a fellowship at VA Boston’s Trauma Track? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

pushing off internship apps for a year?
I am considering pushing off internship applications for a year (my cohort is applying this fall) - my reasons are two fold, it's been an incredibly challenging year personally for many reasons; and I also definitely do not feel that I'm as competitive as I'd like to be for what I'm aiming for. I'm not sure if a year would make a huge difference but I could certainly work more on publications as well as adding another externship that may be more specialized, given I'm primarily interested in... Does anyone have any info on University of Alaska's Clinical-Community PhD program?
Sorry if this post is a bit too niche. But I had a good research match, am from a western state (the funding is MUCH worse if you're not from a western state iirc), and it seems like a solid program (looks like back in the day it did have an attrition problem). Snagged an interview yesterday. Still, given its really small cohorts and it being Alaska, I've found next to no information about the program online. Figure maybe someone in here might have interviewed with the program or have some... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

How to bill complex cases that require a lot of extra coordination
I'm wondering if anybody knows the appropriate CPT code to utilize to bill for hours that are spent on complex cases that require a lot of extra coordination with family, team members, etc. where a lot of the extra coordination does not take place face-to-face – but actually takes place over email. For example, suppose you have a very complex case that is high acuity and you're doing a lot of email back and forth with the family, as well as psychiatry, as well as family therapy in order to... Pros and Cons of being a psychologist in California vs. Washington state?
Hello, I'd love to hear some of the pros and cons of being a psychologist in California or Washington. Given that two large states on the West Coast tend to have ample job opportunities both in the large systems (VAs, Kaiser, etc.) and private practice settings, I'd love to hear from those of you who have considered either state for their job or post-doc opportunities (which would ideally lead to a job opportunity), and why you chose the place over the other. Also, I'd love to hear from... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Using telehealth private practice hours as supervised hours?
This year, I will be starting a tenure-track assistant professor position immediately after graduating with my PhD and finishing internship. I'm thrilled for this next step, and part of my negotiation package included ensuring I will have supervision from a fellow faculty member as I work towards licensure in the state where the university is (Tennessee), which is great. I've done the math, and I'll just need about 8-10 hours per week of clinical hours, which they said I'm welcome to obtain... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

starting private practice in Massachusetts
Hi, I’ve been on this forum for years and it has helped me a lot throughout my career. I finally decided to change my job and start a private practice. It will be all online (for now at least) and still in the early stages. I’ve been told that many people start out as part time and in the meantime have a full time job. What do people do for their other job? Is it a conflict to work at another private practice part time and also have my own? If not, are you transparent and tell the potential... Authorship issues
I’m in a clinically oriented PhD program in the midst of my dissertation. I have my PI and 2 other committee members from my university working with me on this project. Ideally, my goal is to publish my dissertation, but I would like to reach out to my other faculty contacts from a research oriented PhD program for their contribution to the manuscript once it’s defended. My committee members, including my PI, have done little to nothing for this project. I have received close to no... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Suggestions on referral sources for new private practice
I am curious what all of you have found to be successful for patient recruitment. I am paneled on several insurance companies but not the biggest in my state. What I have done thus far: -Zocdoc- complete trash for out of network referrals, perhaps 1/5 actually turned into a patient, I restricted it to only in network referrals. -psychology today- steady but slow, getting only 3-4 new patients a month -networking with local PCP- so far nothing, they have been very receptive, but I just... Interview for PsyD
Hi! I recently received an interview for St. John's School PsyD program. I am so thrilled! I was wondering if anyone had any insight on how likely you are to be accepted if you were offered an interview? I've heard mixed answers from people: some say the interview is just a formality and you're already in, others say they invite way more people to interview than they have actual spots in the program. Does anyone know? How many people are really rejected after the interview? Also, if... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Internship list - too competitive??
I‘m applying for internship this fall, and I’m starting to think I’m being too picky but because of my family (kids) I’m also geographically restricted. Compared to some others I also don’t have a heavy peds background and balanced my externships out more during training (one 2 year pediatric/adult externship, 1 inpatient adult, and for my last externship most likely pediatric/adolescent IBH or ED). I have a strong interested in pediatric C/L, so have been mostly looking at sites with some... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)
