SCS psych clearance delays
I've identified patients I'm considering for neuromodulation but have been getting held up by the psych clearance portion - long wait times, insurance non-coverage and patients having to pay out of pocket (even the telehealth options). I'm exploring the idea of hiring a liscensed psychologist as a contractor for the group to expedite the process on a per-eval basis. Anyone have any experience with this and Is a practice allowed cover the cost of the eval? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Harvard, TikTok, and mental health
I heard whispers of this during my southern cal trip. A very interesting read Harvard Cozies Up to #MentalHealth TikTok As young Americans turn to TikTok for information on mental health, the T.H. Is college counseling always a lower income sentence?
Always been semi-interested in the work of psychologists that work in campus counseling centers. Have not heard good things about the pay, is there any real variability to it at all? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

What goes wrong in a (psychologist's) family?
The Last Psychiatrist: What Goes Wrong In A Psychiatrist's Family? With the study on yelling that's active right now. I thought it might be fruitful to discuss this. From the Last Psychiatrist: So maybe I am generalizing a bit, but I'm trying to get at something that isn't easily explained by science: why do so many psychiatrist families go bad in the same way? In my experience (see, there's my disclaimer) psychiatrist-parents go wrong in a very specific way... Click to expand... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

I'm a junior. How do I get ready to apply to clinical psych Phd programs?
Hi everyone! The title says it all. For reference, I have a 3.95 GPA at a competitive university. I tend to do well on standardized tests as well. As far as clinical experience goes, I've both volunteered at a substance abuse clinic and shadowed a forensic psychologist at a psychiatric hospital. As far as research experience goes, I spend about 20 hours a week (sometimes more) working in two labs. I run experiments for an animal behavior lab that studies the acute effects of nicotine on... Why do so few psychologists offer clinical assessments
Just something that I have noticed lately. I live in a medium-sized city on the east coast, and yet I still feel as though there are fewer than 10 psychologists in the city who offer psychodiagnostic or psychoeducation assessments. Granted, this is amongst private practice practitioners, as many of those employed in hospitals are probably neuropsychologists, or focus on specific medical populations. Why do so many not wish to offer assessments? Is it risk of litigation or going to court? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

PhD funding
Wanted to get some input. I just started a PhD program at an R1 and am having some issues w the financial support, want to see if it's normal or worth being worried about. Essentially funding was misrepresented in the interview process, there is no consistent funding, our department has very few GTA spots that are only awarded for a year or two at a time seemingly if you're lucky enough to grab one. There are some large campus labs that employ some of my department doc students as GRAs but... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

EPPP part 2 early adoption
DC decided to be an early adopter of the part 2 and put in a terrible clause that forced all applicants with a degree conferral post Jan 1, 2022 to take it. Sucks for me because I'm already a licensed psychologist in another state with psypact but because my conferral date is aug 2022.. I'm forced to take it. Despite the fact I went to APA program and internship AND completed 2080 hour formal post doc fellowship. Seems like quite the money grabbing scam to early... Just started a private practice....now what?
So I'm a recent grad, have a couple jobs which more than pay the bills while I get my practice up and running. I am currently listed on psychology today. I am paneling with a couple insurers and the rates I got back from one of them today (a major payor on the west coast) was beyond low. Like $40ish for 90833, $80ish for 99214. My office is in a nice area of Los Angeles, so very HCOL. I've so far gotten nothing via psychology today. Not even an email. I'm afraid if the other two insurers... Psychologist licensure requirement in California
Hey all, This is a question for folks who are familiar with the licensure requirement in California. Does anyone know if someone works as a 100% research postdoc (0% clinical work) in clinical-related studies and the mentor is a clinical psychologist, can he count all his research hours towards licensure and be qualified to apply? Thank you. (Source: Student Doctor Network)
