Toxic residency
I don't deserve this. I know I don't deserve this. In fact, no human being deserves the psychological torture that my program is putting us all through. It is not normal to be harassed and disrespected just because you are a resident at an institution that turns a blind eye to residents who are being mistreated. I'm so frustrated, sad, and mad. I wish I would have never matched here. I would have rather SOAPed into another specialty. Or quit medicine entirely. The way we are treated is... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Highly Sensitive People/Children
Every so often I determine there isn't enough suffering in my life so I decide to read the source material for whatever pop psychology term my patients have latched on to from TikTok or YouTube or whatever. I have lately been hearing a lot about "highly sensitive people/children" so I borrowed Elaine Aron's (child psychologist) book The Highly Sensitive Child from the library. I'm only into chapter one and I don't think I can keep going. She has stated both that this "trait" is both... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

ITCT implementation
Hi everyone! I am curious if anyone knows any info about ITCT and just the general feelings people get about it? I’ve read the research on it and understand the general principles. Where I went to internship used to teach interns it (along with PCIT and TF CBT) but the supervisor who was certified left the agency. However, I don’t really ever hear about it (especially in comparison to PCIT and TF CBT). I know EMDR has feelings towards it (to put it politely) and was curious if ITCT has... VA Graduate Psychologist - what's it like?
I've never worked in the VA before, but I'm reaching the point where I'm 6 months away from finishing my internship and I'm trying to figure out what to do next. I'm wanting to start my own clinical practice as soon as possible, but I know that I need post-doctoral experience to be able to get a license in many states. I'm seeing some VA jobs that I'm quite qualified for (perfectly in line with my specialty area), and a lot of them allow you to join right after internship as a "graduate... Pennsylvania License/PPLE Exam
Hi PA Psychologists!! I took the PPLE and failed it So frustrating after taking/passing the EPPP. Not to mention that the PA board is being a pain about it. My question is for people who passed the PPLE: What are some study tips that you may have and how should I navigate the questions on the exam that are so oddly/specifically worded? Thanks for your help and encouragement!! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Tell me if these are good programs! I don't know anything and need good advice.
Hi All! Let me know what you guys think of these PsyD programs I picked out: GW, Rutgers, Palo Alto/PGSP-Stanford PsyD Consortium, Loyola University Maryland, Baylor, Yeshiva, Widener. (Insiders is saying the acceptance rates for some of these programs are literally less than 10%. That seems hard to get into.. ) I found them on the Insider's Guide book and looked at APA match rates and cohort sizes. My advisor at my school was saying how getting an MSW first might help me get into... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Alliant International University —Fresno (Psy.D.)
Opinions on Alliant International University—Fresno (Psy.D.)? Seems good face value and their stats have said 100% match rate for APA internships since 2017. Small cohort too. However, I saw a reddit post that said it is a diploma mill. Does that just mean its a lot of money and not a good program? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Should I get a Psy.D to enable me to do IMEs for Veterans?
Hi all, I have my BA in Psychology and I'm trying to decide if I should get an LMHC or a Psy.D. In terms of how I want to practice, the only benefit a Psy.D confers is the ability to do IMEs for Veterans (and it adds a little more credibility if I want to write a book or make an informative Youtube channel). I've read the posts here on psychology IMEs but they don't have much specific information on doing them for Veterans. My questions are: 1. If I get my Psy.D, is it possible to have a... Unfunded PhD, Next steps to recover from debt?
Hi Everyone, After three cycles of applying to Clinical Psychology programs, I finally got accepted to one and recently started this year. While I am enjoying my program, the only caveat is that it's unfunded. I know there's a huge discourse surrounding not attending unfunded clinical programs but I don't think people realize how difficult admissions have become. Given that programs have waived the GRE, hundreds of applicants fighting for 5 or less spots (depending even if the advisor... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Best PsyD programs to apply to (small cohort)
Hi All, What are your recommendations for best PsyD programs to apply for in Clinical Psychology? I got GW on my list as my first choice for now. I am interested in small cohorts if anyone has info on that. Thank you!! Also, any advice on getting in would help a lot. Right now, my clinical experience only includes doing direct volunteer service on a crisis line which I think is pretty good so I will be keeping that up. Anything else that would help on my resume? Thank you! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Deciding where to go to Grad School
Hi All! I am a senior in undergrad and I applied to the William James College PsyD program. I am looking to get honest feedback on this program and whether it is worth going if I get accepted. Debt isn’t a concern for me, and I am more concerned about training and the actual program (mentoring, personal guidance, future outcomes of psychologists). I applied because I see on linkedin that alums have gotten great opportunities and have went on to do great things in the field with their... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Resigning midsemester versus before?
Something happened recently that was honestly the last straw with academia and my institution. Luckily, I have TJOs for VA clinical jobs that are in process for FJOs. I’m not sure if the FJOs will come before the semester starts, though. I want to quit ASAP, but the cautious part of me tells me to wait until the FJO is in hand. Advice? Evidently...setting boundaries is now tantamount to "white supremacy."
Yup...evidently according to some folks I have interacted with, setting (and reinforcing) boundaries, especially around things like financial obligations of a patient is now tantamount to being a form of white supremacy. I guess I should I go get my bed sheets....I already have the F-150 pick up truck, so that takes care of that. To give a larger view of the topic, a psychologist had posted on a Facebook group I belong to where people frequently offer and take referrals and also seek out... Help Accessing UCLA Semel Institute Internship & Post-doc Brochures
For some god forsaken reason, I have never been able to access the clinical neuropsychology internship and post-doc brochures for the UCLA Semel Institute. I have tried multiple browsers on multiple computers at multiple IP addresses. If someone could have mercy on me and send these materials, I would be extremely grateful. I am a clinical neuropsychology trainee planning ahead for internship/post-doc applications and, like everyone else it seems, would love to end up in California. I will...
