Why is the PsyD degree so watered down?
As a “professional degree” why are there so many different programs under the PsyD degree? I understand having PsyDs in Clinical, Counseling, or School psychology (although I feel like it’d be best to just have a PsyD in one overarching discipline, similar to how every other professional degree is specific to their overall field, MD in medicine, PharmD in pharmacy, OD in optometry, DDS in dentistry, etc.) as those are the normal, accredited eligible, pathways that lead to licensure and... YouTube and psychology
Hello, folks! Enjoy knowing that one of the most currently trending videos on YouTube is BvDK spreading trauma pseudoscience and saying that people who haven’t seen trauma in their lives “haven’t looked hard enough.” On a meta note, maybe this thread can be dedicated to discussing the impact of short micro videos like this on our field, or just public forum videos in general. How are 10-min. bite sized videos, accurate or not, affecting the public perception of our field... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Applying to internship with a school-age child(ren) - partner won't move
Has anyone navigated this situation before? I live in Los Angeles and am worried about having to move out of state in order to match. My co-parent/ex-partner is not receptive to leaving LA, and honestly, I don't want to uproot my son's life for only a year. I welcome your wisdom, hope, and strength. 🙏 (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Generalist internship, neuro postdoc?
Moving for an internship (and then AGAIN for a postdoc) poses some serious issues for my family because I have kiddos. The concern I have is that the only internship available in this city is very generalist. It is assessment-heavy, but there are little to no neuro opportunities. In grad school, I've done 2 true neuro practicums and one ASD practicum that included a lot of neuro testing. If I do the generalist practicum will i be SOL for a neuro fellowship? false advertising or acceptable for NP assessment?
Hello, All I recently ran into someone from the same program who advertised on his website that he "specializes" in neuropsychological assessment. I know this person did not have a two-year postdoc in NP and his internship (not APA accredited) was in treatment only. This person could have gotten a 1-year postdoc with mostly assessment (I would not know for sure) but I know it would not be under a neuropsychologist. So, Can this person say they "specialize" in NP assessment? Also, can... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

EPPP Study Programs
Hello all, I'm planning on taking the EPPP in the next couple of months and have been looking at different study programs. My top choices include PsychPrep, Prepjet, and the Taylor Study Method. I was wondering if people had experience with any of these, what you liked/disliked and whether you'd recommend it. Thank you!! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Happy Thanksgiving!
Happy Thanksgiving, you filthy animals. I'm thankful for all of you, even the people I routinely argue against. As my one real social media-esque outlet, I enjoy this forum. Hope you're all having some good family/friends/whatever time you need today. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

What to do if my dream professor is not accepting students?
I'm a rising junior with big dreams of getting into one of the top-funded Psy.D Programs. But today, my dream took a little bit of a hit. Let me first say that I have a 3.9 GPA, great research experience, and all the necessary qualifications like posters/presentations and great LORs to be a top candidate. I know that it's not just about credentials and GPA, but more about finding the right "fit." So, I've been reaching out to professors, sharing my experiences, and connecting with their... Taking a sixth year for research?
Hi all, I know this has been talked about before on here, but would love any advice you might have in considering to take a sixth year in a five year program. I'm primarily research focused and have had reasonable productivity for my first two years and change (2 pubs and 4 under review, two of which are first author). I've also submitted three IRBs this semester, so I have some projects I'm excited about that are in their earlier stages too. I've generally been pretty ahead on milestones... Factitious disorder in outpatient psychiatry
Wondering if anyone has had an outpatient in psychiatry clinic with suspected factitious disorder consisting of feigned psychological symptoms. I have a case that has been very challenging, and there are several elements of the overall presentation and histories that raise my concern for factitious disorder. However, it is impossible to prove concretely considering the possible feigned symptoms are almost purely psychological. On the other hand, I wonder if my concern for factitious... VA postdoc in NY/NJ area - thumbs up or down?
Hi, I'm looking into postdocs for the upcoming year and was considering applying to VAs in the NY/NJ area. I haven't worked at a VA yet, but have experience working with trauma and would like to continue getting more training. I was wondering how competitive VA postdocs are and if anyone had any advice regarding applying to a VA or thoughts as to why not to apply to a VA. Thanks! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

The APA & EDMR
I'm naive so bare with me- - If EDMR is so atrocious, and a technique based in flawed literature, then why is it approved by the APA Practice Guidelines? I ask this in true ignorance, I would believe you if you told me that there was an EDMR lobby of sorts- but I was under the impression that the APA is the organization responsible for setting the standards of the field? Do people pick and choose what they believe from the APA, and if so, what does that mean about what is kept and what is... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

School List Feedback 3.6/522 PA Applicant URM
Hello! I am looking for some advice on my school list, especially in terms of schools that might be worth taking off the list. I will be applying for the 2024/2025 cycle.
