Evaluation of pharmaceutical practice in hospitals: an exploratory study comparing processes in France and Quebec
CONCLUSIONS: This study highlights the evaluation processes of pharmaceutical practice in hospitals. In France as in Quebec, we recognize the importance of the drug circuit in the hospital, the development and operation of a pharmacy department and the practice of pharmacy. While there are more similarities for the assessment of the drug circuit in hospitals and pharmacy department, important differences are observed for the assessment of individuals. We believe that the publication of a comparative analysis can contribute to discussions and exchanges to benefit from the best practices of each country.PMID:38367934 | DOI:1...

Antioxidant and Anti-Arthritic Activity of Bombax buonopozense P. Beauv. Leaves
CONCLUSION: Phytochemical screening revealed the presence of flavonoids, alkaloids, and phenolics. The brine shrimp lethality assay of the crude extract and fractions gave LC50 value ≥ 1000 µg/mL, compared to Cyclophosphamide (LC50 = 224.7±0.35µg/mL). The BBME had TPC value of 19.8±0.56 mg GAE/g, while the TFC of ethyl acetate fraction was the highest (173.5±0.05 mg QE/g). The ethyl acetate fraction has the highest antioxidant activity (IC50 = 20.96±0.23 µg/mL) as compared to ascorbic acid (2.8±0.01) and rutin (20.6±9.26 µg/mL). BBME significantly reduced the paw circumference. BBME (400 mg/kg) prevented bioche...

Despite the efficacy of conventional chemotherapy, medication resistance and adverse effects limit its effectiveness, leading researchers to explore alternative treatments, including herbal remedies. Saffron, a well-known spice derived from the Crocus sativus L. plant, has shown potential as a BC treatment. The active components of saffron exhibit a...

Unveiling the impacts of FDA Breakthrough Therapy Designation: a dual-perspective examination of economic and developmental outcomes for biotechnology companies
Drug Discov Today. 2024 Feb 14:103919. doi: 10.1016/j.drudis.2024.103919. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBiotechnology and small pharma companies must recognize the opportunity presented by FDA Breakthrough Therapy Designation (BTD) to expedite drug development for serious conditions. This paper evaluates BTD economic and developmental impacts on such companies. Analysis of 29 BTD events from 2017 to 2022 revealed immediate share price boosts and improved drug approval rates, alongside faster development times. Yet, long-term share prices underperformed relative to the broader market, underscoring the persistent risks in ph...
