Prolia (denosumab) vs Zometa (zolendronic acid) for bisphos-refractory (or intolerant) Osteoporosis
: Which do you prefer? Prolia is a q 6mo injection, Zometa a q12month infusion. Patients have to be compliant with both, and it's life-long therapy. Though, I've heard that the consequences of mal-compliance with Prolia are more severe, more prone to fractures if you stop the Prolia. True? Thoughts? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

"this study confirms that the majority of orthopaedic surgical interventions are not based on RCTs" - thoughts??
This study comes to the conclusion that MANY of the most commonly performed orthopedic procedures are not based on high quality RCTs, what does this mean for the future of ortho? will we see less ortho surgeries in the future and a shift towards non-surgical managment? will the majority of the field's bread and butter go extinct like meniscectomy, vertebroplasty, arthroscopic knee debridment... Excessive shadowing?
Hello all. Basically, I have 150 hours shadowing various ‘medical’ surgical specialties (general, trauma, orthopedics). At some point I switched over to pre-dental, and now have ~100 hours shadowing hospital OMFS and ~20 hours shadowing GP. I understand that with the exception of the GP hours, this is a LOT of hours. However it is not without reason. I did genuinely enjoy shadowing the ‘medical’ surgical specialties as well as OMFS and consciously chose to take on those hours because I truly... Orthopaedic & Podiatric Surgeons Joint Task Force 2021
The attached PDF is for your reading. We will wait and see what happens, but definitely the way to move forward, IMO. Not related to this but also important is the re-introduction of HR 2972 in Congress. Check it out if you don't what it is and its impact on our field. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Looking for someone to open up a DM for advice regarding an orthopaedic residency as an IMG
Hi all, I am looking for anyone (attending/resident/experienced) with knowledge about residency applications, how they are judged, and how I am going to strategise next year. Please, DM me if you can help - I'd be very grateful. Thanks (Source: Student Doctor Network)

no research for competitive speciality
Hello everyone, I am an incoming M1 and currently I am interested in orthopedic surgery or neurosurgery. I was wondering if research is necessary to get into these residency programs? I am not really interested in research. If down the line I decide to go into a less competitive specialty like cardiology do those REQUIRE research as well? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Interested in ortho but hesitant due to the NEED of fellowship
I wanted to ask how the ortho job landscape is nowadays where almost everyone is fellowship trained: 1- Is it harder to get jobs as a fellowship trained ortho since you are now practicing in a niche with far less volume (naturally) than the general orthopod that used to see everything bone related? 2- Do you still get to do some of the very common ortho procedures you are comfortable with regardless of your fellowship? i.e. ortho spine doing primary TKA and THA and if so how many... Career in Musculoskeletal Radiology
It seems like many musculoskeletal radiologists perform a number of procedures and some have a clinic. I know one msk radiologist that performs ablations/embolizations of bone tumors and mets, kyphoplastys and screw fixation for fractures, and lots of US/fluoro guided injections for pain patients. However, I'm not certain what the rest of his week looks like when not doing procedures. My question for msk radiologists on this forum: If one would like to do lots of procedures and have a... Creighton vs Indiana
I'm having such a hard time deciding. COA is basically the same, so just looking for some input. Specialties of interest include orthopedic surgery, general surgery, and radiology, but definitely subject to change. Creighton (Phoenix) Pros Brand new campus and buildings (amazing anatomy lab) Non-mandatory recorded lectures Great local hospitals for rotations Good curriculum timeline and elective clerkships Good match list when considering...
