FlexMed Essay Prompts
Hi everyone I'm a sophomore applying to FlexMed this year -- and I wanted some help analyzing my ideas for the essay prompts. (1) In 300 words or less, please describe something in your life that has given you a great sense of personal, academic, or professional accomplishment. I've been volunteering regularly at my local hospital with orthopedic inpatients. My role has been to restock materials and help nurses with patient care, but I've found that my greatest impact comes from... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

1st year DO student trying to get into surgey
I am an OMSI. I am shooting to match into general surgery or orthopedics. I got two C's this last quarter and am very worried about the outlook. Are there any surgeons on here who could give examples of grades and things that helped them in the match? Thank you!! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Canadian Applying Ortho - Need Advice asap
Hi! Any advice please share!!! This is on behalf of my friend, we're trying to figure out what's going on. They are an M4 at a mid-tier MD school applying to match orthopedic surgery, did both undergrad and med school in the US, but they're Canadian. Offer Day was Tuesday (ortho has 30 signals), since then they received around nine rejections from signals, three waitlists, and only one interview from a school they didn't even signal. In total only has four interviews (1 from home... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Hand Surgery Salary
What is a fair base salary and bonus structure for a hand surgeon in a mid-sized, west coast, community private practice (as the only hand surgeon in the group). Does anyone have recent MGMA data? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

How technical of a procedure is hip FAI surgery?
I'm curious how technical/difficult of a procedure a hip arthroscopy for FAI + labral tear is- specifically is it one of those procedures where there is a lot to gain from seeing a surgeon who does them in high volume (more niche) or more of a generic procedure that many sports medicine fellowship trained surgeons can do well? I appreciate your input. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Clinical grade
Currently at a state school, not T20, and interested in applying ortho. Had IM as one of my first clerkships and only passed. I heard honoring IM is important for competitive subspecialties like ortho so I wanted to know how badly this would hurt my app and if there's anything I can do to make up for it. The system is broken, example #4728262
Part of my academic gig involves an embedded clinic with a medical subspecialist. I love this work--by working side by side with my medical colleague (often seeing the patients together) I can address issues that are very hard to get to in separate clinics. But here's one real annoying thing. Epic won't let us schedule the same patient on both of our scheudles at the same time. You know what IS possible? Double or even triple booking patients on an individual schedule. So the physically... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Helpful videos/podcasts for Orthopedic Surgery applications!
I found these 2 very helpful: 1) UCSF Faculty on the "6 to 8 Weeks" podcast discussing where to apply and how signals may be treated by programs: https://peds-ortho.simplecast.com/episodes/choosing-where-to-apply-for-residency 2) This youtube video goes into depth on signaling: Do you have any other good resources on how to approach Ortho apps?? Building Practice in MSG/Hospital Setting
Wanted to get everyone's opinion on this. I just started in a hospital/MSG based orthopedic clinic with no other foot and ankle here. Do you treat it similar to how you would as a solo or PP provider? The business development team is supposed to help market me, just wanted to get opinions on things I may not think of, and they may not regularly do to market. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Ortho Competitiveness (Step 2)
Hey all, New to posting (not browsing) here. I am an M4 at a mid-level school who just received my Step 2 score of a 255 last week. I just don't know how to gauge my competitiveness for orthopedics in this upcoming cycle. So I'm hoping for some honest feedback. For context, I have had my sights set on ortho since early M1. I will finish in the top MSPE percentile bracket possible for my class after honoring all of M1 and M2 with 4/8 Honors in clinicals including surgery (the rest were HP... Chance me - ortho or dual apply?
Good morning everyone, I'm in the process of trying to figure out my plans for next year while I have some time. I just got my step 2 score back and I'm in the 248-252 range. I'm currently in a gap research year in an orthopedics program and I'm anticipating around 17+ research items (both clinical and non-clinical) by the time that I start ERAS in September of 2024. I did honor my surgery rotation and have strong leadership positions at my school. I'm in the process of trying to figure... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Starting a medical assistant job tomorrow, what should I say in the document that I have to upload after submitting my secondaries?
As of tomorrow, I will be starting a new job as a full-time medical assistant at an orthopedics office. My question to everyone is, what do I say in the document that provides updates to the admissions committees after I have submitted my secondaries? (Source: Student Doctor Network)
