WSOA conference slanders podiatry - Seattle, WA
Conference is run by a Swedish Medical Physician yet he gives no credit to the historically strong Swedish Medical Center podiatry program which literally handles all the foot and ankle trauma at two Swedish medical campuses in downtown Seattle. Then they bring up a female orthopedic foot and ankle doc who spreads a lot of misinformation about podiatry. ACFAS and APMA will do nothing. These ortho MDs continue to bring up the skewed articles we have talked about before... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Please Help Me Decide BUSM vs UT San Antonio (Long)
Hey guys, I am a California applicant that is currently deciding between either attending BUSM or UT San Antonio. I'm considering going into either orthopedics or dermatology, but to be honest, I'm uncertain and am open to exploring different specialties. UT San Antonio is really behind on releasing financial aid packages and have told me that there is no way that I will be given it before I have to make the decision. I estimate that It will at least cover tuition because my family's... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Adductor/ipack local dose
Hi all, my orthopod uses a cocktail of local which includes 30ml of 0.5% Bupi for total knees. Then I do adductor with 10-12 ml of 0.2 ropi and ipack with 12-15ml of 0.2 ropi in the PACU. I am concerned about toxicity in very thin patients. I understand the absorption is poor and gradual. Can some regional guys shed some light on this? How much higher can I go after the surgeon uses 30ml of 0.5% Bupi? Thanks. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Orthopaedics and Research??
Is having little to no research experience an absolute killer for matching into orthopaedics? I will give a little background on my situation. Let me start off by saying that I have absolutely no interest in research. I will read papers that I find interesting, but otherwise I have no interest or passion in conducting research myself. I want to be a clinician, not a research scientist. As of right now my top two choices are either orthopaedics or anesthesiology because I know I want to... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Duke vs Tri-I
Already posted in the MSTP forum but was looking for any additional advice! Wanted to preface this by saying I am incredibly grateful to have these options, first one in my family to finish college and this has been a dream of mine for so long that it hasn’t even sunk in yet it’s come true. General background: lived in Manhattan for past three years doing research at various labs in Weill Cornell, looking to do orthopedics as a clinical specialty and research can fall anywhere from... What do you guys think? is ortho really THAT BAD in terms of EBM? will we see less surgeries in the future?
Summary of the video: The first study looked at the top 30 most commonly performed procedures in ortho found 3 low risk of bias RCTS ONLY The second was for MSK pain procedures - no LRB RCTs So most of orthopedic procedures taken as standard nowadays have a very weak evidence base, does that mean that we will see far less ortho procedures in the future with far more stringent indications? especially if insurance companies catch up and stop reimbursing procedures that...
