Hi, I am in the process of planning out which schools to apply to and wanted to know which schools are reasonable. I am AA (Nigerian) female with 3.5 OGPA, 3.42BCPM, 499->510 MCAT. I am currently enrolled in a masters program that's geared to help pre- professional students. I have 1 year in a research lab ~100 hours. Propofol induced myoclonus?
Anybody ever seen this? I seem to always get the weird anesthesia reactions that never happen to anyone else. I was doing moderate sedation on this lady in her 60s, ASA 3, s/p total left shoulder about 1.5 months ago and the orthopod sent her in after doing an XR in the office that showed prosthetic dislocation. I do all my usual pre-sedation assessment, get everything ready, yada yada. All my back up stuff in the room, ortho talks rads into rolling a c-arm down from the OR and we're ready... Opioids until....
I have a number of patients requesting opioids until whatever next step in care there is. Until I see orthopedics and I get a plan for my knee. Until you complete the ablation and that starts to work or whatever other interventional procedure. I don't prescribe in these situations because previously it seemed like patients always found something else before they want to stop. Do others consider short term opioids while completing procedures/further work-up? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

PM & R/Pain in an Ortho Practice
A question for the ortho group on SDN. I’ve often heard of / seen PM&R/Pain in surgical practices, particularly ortho and neurosurgery. As an orthopedic surgeon, what are skills or things you look for when adding a PM&R and/or pain physician to your practice? How do they fit into your practice? Thanks in advance. Are general orthopedic surgeons limited in scope?
Hello everyone, I am currently on my ortho rotation and asked one of the orthos why every ortho in our hospital is so limited in scope (we have hand, foot, spine guys...etc each only practicing within their fellowship scope) and that i would like to be a general ortho and do everything because the idea of doing surgery all over the body is what really draws me to ortho. He said that general orthos in the true sense no longer exist because of the growing body of knowledge and procedures... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

KYCOM vs TouroCOM-NY Harlem vs BCOM
Hey everyone! I could use any help on how to make the best decision regarding which medical school I should attend. Some goals: practice in a lively place, have a good chance at competitive residency programs, good research opportunities, and currently interested in psychiatry, OB/Gyn, or orthopedics. KYCOM Pros: - KYCOM advantage (iPad, pay for board prep/exams) - great match rate - low tuition - more established - exams are monthly Cons: - super rural, population of like ~7,000... Post-kypho care
I've admittedly been focused more on the interventional side of managing fractures, and referring to PCP or Endo for medical management of fractures and bone health. Been wanting to take more ownership of these issues. What do you all do, in terms of DEXA, labs, meds, supplements, etc? Any good guidelines to get me up to speed? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Podiatrists in orthopedic groups - unfair treatment
One of our residents is joining an orthopedic group, and she just so happened to put me down as a reference. After further research, I found out that this orthopedic group does not allow podiatrists to be partners. A friend of mine is also in an orthopedic group, but gets treated like a second class citizen. His name is listed at the bottom of the faulty roster, while the orthopedics are listed in alphabetical order. How do you guys feel about this? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Kypho coding

Is this a good plan to gain clinical experience as a reapplicant?
I applied this cycle to about 26 MD and 5 DO schools and have not received any IIs. In December I started working as a scribe at an orthopedics clinic. I’ll be able to get about 480 hrs through this by the time I reapply. I also worked as a patient transporter from September to December 2021 but quit because it interfered with my scribing schedule and I felt scribing was the more valuable experience. I had no clinical experience when I applied. (3.67, sGPA 3.5, 512 MCAT) So for my... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Private Practice with support from local hospital
Currently doing an orthopedic fellowship and plan to go start a solo private practice (not hospital employee) after I am done with training. A community hospital is willing to financially support my practice and give me an income guarantee my first year to help me get going, as long as I stay in the community for 4 years. Has anyone gone through with this and willing to share their experience? What are things I should know before signing the contract? (Source: Student Doctor Network)
