USC-Keck vs. Cornell
** disclaimer: posting this for someone without an SDN account, this is not me** East-coast born and raised. I have no clue what I want to do, but I’m leaning surgical and more specifically orthopedic surgery, simply because I feel it might fit my personality the most. Therefore, entering medical school aiming for that. Also important to note that it’s not important at all for me to be close to my family. I also have no clue where I want to be for residency in terms of east vs west coast... USC-Keck vs. Cornell (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Pitt Med vs. Northwestern Feinberg
Hey yall, I'm stuck and I'm looking for some outside input between these 2 schools. I'm currently deciding between these 2 powerhouse school and I'm lucky to be in this position, but also have been left and right between them for some time now. I am primarily interested in surgery, more specifically Orthopedics, but definitely open-minded within surgery. I have great connections built at Pitt since I did my masters there, but I feel like I am turning down a great opportunity at NW by staying... How is University of Illinois College of Medicine?
Hi all, I'm going to get much more active on the forum as I'm right now making a decision for college. I've been blessed to get into a BS/MD program through UIC's GPPA Medicine program. The type of doctor I'd like to be is an orthopedic, general, or cardiothoracic surgeon - and have a specialty in "something". I know I made a post regarding the BS/MD vs a liberal arts college that is Bowdoin College (full ride and $3000 stipend for research/study abroad) and Washington and Lee University... Hello All, Hope everyone is staying healthy and safe. I am in the process of applying to medical school and was interested in looking into osteopathic students matching into ortho surgery in the new system. The NRMP press release (New! What is the medium to long-term outlook after all of this?
As we all know, ED volumes are way down and hours and pay are being slashed. Hospitals are hurting not just due to decreased ED and admission volumes, but also due to massive cuts in billing from specialists. Our orthopedic group was billing something like infinity billion dollars per month, and now it's down to like $3.50. I'd like to believe quarantines will be lifted soon and things will just go back to normal. But I'm not so sure that will happen. And I wonder what the new normal is... D.O. Student Orthopedic Surgery Matched-AMA
I matched into orthopedic surgery! I just wanted to share the knowledge that I gained throughout the ortho process. Applying to ortho as a DO student can be confusing as there isn't much information out there. Throughout the process, I gained a ton of advice on SDN so I just wanted to give back. Please ask me anything! I promise I have nothing better to do right now. Here are the meat and potatoes of my application. I had a lot of other things listed in research experiences, awards, etc... What are my chances/School list help?
This post is for a close friend of mine. Her stats are as follows cGPA 3.8 and sGPA 3.8 MCAT 498. One clinical research experience and over a year working as a medical assistant in an orthopedic group. Was highly involved during undergrad and was a student athlete at a division 1 school. She is concerned about her low MCAT score and was curious if she would be okay to apply to a few schools or if she should retake it. She also plans to apply to some DO schools in which I think she would be... What are my chances/School list help? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

D.O. with an M.Ch. Legality of Titles? MD or DO? Or Both?
My cousin, who went to DMUCOM, and I are having a debate about his unique status. He finished his D.O. from DMUCOM and attended an ACGME accredited Orthopedic Surgery residency program. After finish residency, he went to the UK to get an M.Ch. (Magister of Chirurgiae/ Master’s of Surgery) [cuz he is a nerd]. He just came from the UK last year and matched to an ACGME ortho fellowship this year. We were debating over whether he will write “Dr. XYZ, D.O., M.Ch.” Or whether his M.Ch. will turn... Telemedicine
For those of you starting to offer telemedicine, in which state are you practicing? We’re trying to get things running in Florida and our compliance attorney’s initial response was the the orthopedic surgeons could do it but the pain docs couldn’t. They cited Louisiana specifically denying that pain visits were covered. I said they need to dig deeper than that but looking for any help to guide them. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Match stats 2019
Hi All, I was looking through the NRMP match stats from last year and I was wondering how to really interpret the results, for example I believe orthopedic surgery had something like 750 programs available and 830 US seniors applying (over 1000 applicants total). and 91% of us seniors filled the spots which seems like quite a high match rate for something so competitive. is that normal? I’m assuming it’s probably because if a student doesn’t have incredible scores and research they wouldn’t... Match stats 2019 (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Osteopathic Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Reviews *Post Merger Version*
@DNC127 and I both matched into orthopedics this cycle and realized how little information is available regarding reviews on previously AOA (D.O.) orthopedic programs. The way osteopathic orthopedics works is that you will primarily get interviews from the programs you audition, and depending on your application, maybe a few more from programs you did not rotate at. That being said, choosing programs to rotate during your limited time is extremely important. Some websites... Incoming M1 interested in ortho
Hi Everyone! I'll be starting med school this fall at Columbia. I've always been interested in surgery and particularly ortho for as long as I can remember. I have a few questions I was hoping you guys could help me answer. I apologize in advance for any questions that may sound dumb. 1. I'm from NYC so my dream would be to match at HSS, which I know is extremely competitive. What are steps that I should take to make my app as strong as possible? Should I find an ortho lab at HSS and do... Incoming M1 interested in ortho (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Away Rotation - Chances vs Big Name Letters
Hi Everyone, I wanted to see if it makes more sense to pick away rotations based on potential match or for big name letters. For context, I go to a "lower tier" state school and discovered ortho late (during surgery rotation which ended a couple weeks ago). 250+ step 1. All honors in 3rd year so far. All honors 1st/2nd. Junior AOA. First author published w/ presentations in gen surg, but no ortho research (workin on it!). I've talked to my home program residents and done a lot of reading...
