Penn State Accelerated Pathways: neurosurgery and orthopedic surgery
I’m a student entering college in the fall with shadowing and clinical exposure in both fields. I recently became aware of the various accelerated pathways penn state offers. I was wondering if anyone on these forums was either accepted to one of these pathways or interviewed for one. I’d appreciate any PMs from anyone who is familiar with the program. Thanks! Torn in my Decision: NYCPM vs. TouroCom MBS linkage Versus Stonybrook MBS
Just accepted to TOUROCOM linkage program which links to its Osteopath school, as well as Stonybrook Masters of biomedical sciences, and NYCPM. I have several years of research experiences at NYU Winthrop, 3 publications, many hours shadowing doctors, volunteer experiences, and a year scribing with an orthopedic surgeon. I went to Tufts University. My GPA took an upward trend at Tufts University, and finished with 3.1 science and 3.3 cumulative GPA (I know, very mediocre, which is why an MBS...

DO class of 2024 pursuing Orthopaedic Surgery Residency
Hello!
I hope everyone is doing well.
I understand that Orthopaedic surgery is one of the most competitive residency and I also understand that attending DO schools makes it even worse.
With that said, how does the Step 1 p/f affect my chances of pursuing Orthopaedic surgery.
Additionally can anyone please help me come up with a game plan to pursue it after the step 1 p/f.
I am really grateful for everyone’s opinion.
Thank you (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Current DO students: Are you all doing research on the side of school? Is it necessary to do research in order to gain residency?
Hey current DO students! I'm getting a bit nervous about starting med school because I have been hearing how stressful and crazy it can get--but I'm also so excited I was wondering if some of you could tell me about your experiences adjusting to medical school, what other co-curriculars you do aside from all school work, and do you think research is an absolute necessity for matching into orthopedics or general surgery? thanks and all the best, stay safe and positive! DO Orthopedic Away Rotation Updates
Unfortunately, the orthopedic google sheet is dedicated mainly to MD Orthopedic applicants and programs. Therefore, I am creating this thread to hopefully pool together an updated status on each DO Orthopedic program as it relates to their decision on away rotations at their site.
All I know currently is that Franciscan Health (Olympia Fields) has informed students they are not accepting away rotations for the 2020-2021 academic year. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Orthopedics vs Podiatry
How do you think orthopedics will fare in the future with podiatrists trying to expand their scope of practice. I feel that foot and ankle fellows will be at a great disadvantage in the future. Any thoughts?

One DO applicant's experience applying to orthopaedic surgery (still helpful for other competitive stuff)
I applied and matched orthopaedic surgery, but I think info like this can be helpful to other competitive stuff.
I promised a write up in the match thread, and here is my attempt to provide information I think is valuable. Stuff said here is mostly just my opinion and what I noticed from my experience plus having a pretty wide network among DO ortho applicants due to serving on national student ortho boards.
As a pre-med student I always wished medical students would come back and talk to...

Hi everyone, thank you for your time. I was recently taken off the waitlist at a school and now have some thinking to do. Please help as soon as you can, I value all input.
Short summary about me: I want to be an orthopedic surgeon, I would like to have the freedom to match in or out of TX. I do not plan to do any heavy research during medical school beyond what is required.

DO orthopedic research importance
I’m an incoming DO student and am very interested in orthopedics. Maybe I’m jumping the gun a bit, but I want to start building my app early so I’m not late to the game during 2nd/3rd year. My question is, for tradionally osteopathic ortho programs, how important is research and what is considered sufficient? I’m sure it probably depends on many factors, but what is a good baseline of what an applicant should have? I know for MD programs research is very important but matching at them is...

Torn between Cornell (A) vs Columbia (accepted off WL)
Originally committed to Cornell, but was accepted off Columbia's waitlist recently. I was set on declining my Columbia offer but I've been seriously considering.
I'm from SoCal interested in orthopedic surgery and surgical specialties, and want to match back into SoCal. CoA is identical for both as they are debt free and the packages very similar.
Columbia
+ T5 school, more prestigious, sexy name brand that could open so many doors.
+ better surgical specialty departments and...

Non US IMG residency
Hi this is my first time on SD. I'm currently a final year medical student who will be graduating this summer and starting work this August in a renowned hospital. I was wondering if I could get some advice on applying/matching into residency in the US. I graduated from a renowned London based medical school and have completed an observsership at a world renowned hospital in New York in Orthopaedics. I was wondering what are the sort of odds of matching to general surgery or orthopaedics (I...
