Socioeconomic status, alcohol use and the role of social support and neighbourhood environment among individuals meeting criteria for a mental health problem: a cross-sectional study
ConclusionsIn contrast to the alcohol harms paradox, among individuals with a mental health problem, lower SES groups were more likely to be non-drinkers while no associations with harmful drinking were found. There is also a need to examine the alcohol harms paradox in the context of the area in which they live. (Source: Social Psychiatry and Psychiatric Epidemiology)

Alerts to improve occupational protection during Interventional Radiology. More attention is needed for simple but frequent procedures
Occupational protection should be improved in interventional radiology. Interventionists are aware that complex procedures involving high patient doses may entail high radiation risks for staff. However, in some cases, low patient dose procedures may require more actions to reduce occupational exposure. (Source: Physica Medica: European Journal of Medical Physics)

Synthesis and crystal structure of (NH4)[Ni3(HAsO4)(AsO4)(OH)2]
The title compound, ammonium trinickel(II) hydrogen arsenate arsenate dihydroxide, was synthesized under hydrothermal conditions. Its crystal structure is isotypic with that of K[Cu3(HAsO4)(AsO4)(OH)2] and is characterized by pseudo-hexagonal (001) 2 ∞ [Ni3As2O18/3(OH)6/3O1/1(OH)1/1] − layers formed from vertex- and edge-sharing [NiO4(OH)2] octahedra and [AsO3.5(OH)0.5] tetrahedra as the building units. The hydrogen atom of the OH group shows occupational disorder and was refined with a site occupation factor of 1/2, indicating the equal presence of [HAsO4]2 – and [AsO4]3 – groups. Strong asymmetric hydrogen bonds ...

The differential and accumulative impacts of self and other sources of  moral injury on well-being in mental healthcare staff
The differential and accumulative impacts of self and other sources of moral injury on well-being in mental healthcare staff Elanor Lucy Webb, Deborah J. Morris, Benedetta Lupattelli Gencarelli, Jemima Worsfold International Journal of Workplace Health Management, Vol. ahead-of-print, No. ahead-of-print, pp.- Research has established the prevalence and relevance of moral injury in healthcare workers, though less attention has been paid to the different classes of potentially morally injurious events (PMIEs) experienced by this population and their impact. This exploratory study sought to examine the frequency of self- an...

How healthy is your workplace? Testing the effectiveness of occupational health programs: insights from Germany
Jasmin Afrahi International Journal of Workplace Health Management, Vol. ahead-of-print, No. ahead-of-print, pp.- Companies are increasingly struggling with the costs of absenteeism due to their employees’ physical and increasing psychological illnesses. At the same time, employers should recognize the value of healthy employees in terms of greater productivity and the development of positive organizational attitudes. Many organizations have implemented workplace health promotion (WHP) programs; however, we still have limited knowledge about the effectiveness of various measures. The present study is an examination of 1...

The voice of the second-level regulated nursing role: a qualitative approach
CONCLUSION: This study explained why recurrent challenges impact the role and what contributes to those in the role feeling valued. Challenges that affect job satisfaction and occupational stress for the second-level (enrolled) nurse are related to the working environment and with whom the nurse works. From a professional level, there are limited career opportunities that recognise and retain the enrolled nurse in their role.PMID:38662773 | DOI:10.1080/10376178.2024.2343002 (Source: Contemporary Nurse)

User experience with ultrawide curved displays: A mixed methods analysis
Appl Ergon. 2024 Apr 24;118:104291. doi: 10.1016/j.apergo.2024.104291. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDue to the trend of replacing dual displays with ultrawide (UW) curved displays, we used a mixed methods analysis to investigate the user experience with UW curved displays. We conducted an experimental laboratory study that quantified user self-selected positions for three displays - 24 in. flat panel, and 34 in. and 40 in. UW curved displays. Participants were first provided with a familiarization protocol, and they then positioned the display. The self-selected UW display viewing distances were within current recommendat...

Impact of Wildfires on Cardiovascular Health

Epub 2024 Apr 25.ABSTRACTWildfire smoke (WFS) is a mixture of respirable particulate matter, environmental gases, and other hazardous pollutants that originate from the unplanned burning of arid vegetation during wildfires. The increasing size and frequency of recent wildfires has escalated public and occupational health concerns regarding WFS inhalation, by either individuals living nearby and downstream an active fire or wildland firefighters and other workers that face unavoidable exposure because of their profession. Effectiveness of a Voice Training Program for Religious Officials in Turkey
This study examines the effectiveness of a voice training program designed for Islamic religious officials, who are occupational voice users with a significant vocal load. The participants included 34 healthy religious officials whose acoustic measures were within normal voice ranges for healthy adults (jitter  <  1%; shimmer <  3%) and reported no voice complaints. Participants were randomly divided into two groups (experimental,n = 17; control,n = 17). The two-stage voice training program consisted of 32 sessions over 8 weeks with informative and voice exercise stages. Objective and subjective voice...
