Occupational therapy students' experiences and perceptions of journal club participation
CONCLUSIONS AND SIGNIFICANCE: Journal clubs were described as having the potential for increasing students' learning regarding research methods, promoting skills in reading and critically reviewing research articles and having relevance for professional practice. Some barriers were identified, and changes are suggested for future educational practice.PMID:38652886 | DOI:10.1080/11038128.2024.2328712 (Source: Scandinavian Journal of Occupational Therapy)

Use of General Practitioner Services Among Workers with Work-Related Low Back Pain: A Systematic Review
ConclusionOnly seven studies met the eligibility indicating a relative lack of evidence, despite the acknowledged important role that GPs play in the care of workers with low back pain. More research is needed to understand the prevalence, patterns and determinants to support effective service delivery and policy development. (Source: Journal of Occupational Rehabilitation)

Trends in severe functional limitations among working and non-working adults in Germany: Towards an (un)-healthy working life?
We examined trends in severe functional limitations among working and non-working adults in Germany (ages 40 –65). Four population-based samples of 11,615 participants were used, spanning the time periods 2002–2021. The overall prevalence of severe limitations was found to be 12.8% in the sample, but also varied from 10 to 20% according to occupational group. Over time, severe limitations were found to have increased, from 10.6% in 2002 to 13.2% in 2021. Logistic regression analysis showed that severe limitations increased significantly in certain subgroups, including working women with a low skilled white collar occup...

IJERPH, Vol. 21, Pages 518: Surveillance of Occupational Exposure to Volatile Organic Compounds at Gas Stations: A Scoping Review Protocol
Castro Health surveillance guides public policies, allows for the monitoring of occupational exposures that may cause health risks, and can prevent work-related diseases. The scoping review protocol herein is designed to map studies on the surveillance of occupational exposure to volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in gas stations and identify the governmental agencies and public health measures in different countries. This review protocol is based on the Joanna Briggs Institute manual and guided by the PRISMA Extension for Scoping Reviews. It includes research articles, theses, dissertations, and official documents on s...

Occupational well-being in medical workers in Inner Mongolia after the Normalized Epidemic Prevention and Control Strategy: A cross-sectional study
This study was designed to investigate the occupational well-being among the medical workers in our city in the COVID-19 after the release of Normalized Epidemic Prevention and Control Strategy since May 7, 2020 in mainland China. We included the medical workers involved in the front-line of COVID-19 that were randomly selected from 7 hospitals in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, China. The occupational well-being among medical workers was evaluated using the modified occupational well-being scales and the symptom Checklist-90 (SCL-90) scale. Then Logistic regression analysis was given to identify the risk factors that ma...

The Stigma of Burnout Impeding Formal Help: A Qualitative Study  Exploring Residents' Experiences During Training
CONCLUSION: The literature has repeatedly reported high levels of burnout among residents in training. This study has added another dimension to those findings through the exploration of residents actual accounts and appears to link burnout with suboptimal training and working conditions. We have highlighted the pivotal role stigma and shame play in completely preventing residents from seeking professional help.PMID:38646001 | PMC:PMC11032676 | DOI:10.2147/AMEP.S453564 (Source: Adv Data)

Why does using personal strengths at work increase employee engagement, who makes the most out of it, and how?
Journal of Occupational Health Psychology, Vol 29(2), Apr 2024, 113-129; doi:10.1037/ocp0000374Engaging in behaviors that take advantage of one’s personal strengths at work can promote employee flourishing in the workplace and mental health. Personal strengths use has thus gained increasing attention within occupational psychology and positive organizational scholarship. In this article, we first integrate work on personal strengths use with the latest developments in the job demands-resources theory (and its extensions) to develop a conceptual model explaining how and why personal strengths use on the job increases work...

The development and validation of a Multidimensional Perceived Work Ability Scale.
We describe the development and validation of the Multidimensional Perceived Work Ability Scale (M-PWAS), comprising four dimensions: physical, cognitive, interpersonal, and emotional. In line with Hinkin’s (1998) approach to scale validation, we use four samples (total N = 1,152) to establish the M-PWAS as a reliable and valid measure of PWA. Through an iterative item generation and review process, we found evidence for content validity. Furthermore, each subscale demonstrated high internal consistency and factorial validity, and analysis of the PWA nomological network demonstrated evidence for convergent and discrimina...
