Police officer attitudes toward pre-arrest behavioral health diversion programs: identifying determinants of support for deflection using a machine learning method
This study explores the determinants of police officer support for pre-arrest/booking deflection programs that divert people presenting with substance use and/or mental health disorder symptoms out of the criminal justice system and connect them to supportive services. This study analyzes responses from 254 surveys fielded to police officers in Delaware. Questionnaires asked about views on leadership, approaches toward crime, training, occupational experience and officer’s personal characteristics. The study applies a new machine learning method called kernel-based regularized least squares (KRLS) for non-linearities and ...

Effectiveness of workplace interventions with digital elements to reduce sedentary behaviours in office employees: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Digital interventions are potential tools for reducing and limiting occupational sedentary behaviour (SB) in sedentary desk-based jobs. Given the harmful effects of sitting too much and sitting for too long wh... (Source: International Journal of Behavioral Nutrition and Physical Activity)

Occupational balance and associated factors among students during higher education within healthcare and social work in Sweden: a multicentre repeated cross-sectional study
Conclusions The association between higher levels of OBQ11 and lower levels of health and well-being is remarkable. There is a need for more research on this contradiction and what it means for students’ health and well-being in the long run. (Source: BMJ Open)

Operator selection for human-automation teaming: The role of manual task skill in predicting automation failure intervention
We examined whether manual aircraft conflict detection skill predicted participants' ability to respond to conflict detection automation failures in simulated air traffic control. In a conflict discrimination task (to assess manual skill), participants determined whether pairs of aircraft were in conflict or not by judging their relative-arrival time at common intersection points. Then in a simulated air traffic control task, participants supervised automation which either partially or fully detected and resolved conflicts on their behalf. Automation supervision required participants to detect when automation may have fail...

The effects of role stressors and smartphone interactions on delivery riders' unsafe behaviors during the delivery process in China
This study aimed to explore the effects of role stressors and smartphone interactions on delivery riders' unsafe behaviors. Methods. First, a questionnaire survey (N = 326) was used to collect data, and correlation and regression analyses were conducted to explore the relationship between role stressors, smartphone interaction frequency and delivery riders' unsafe behaviors. Second, a scenario survey (N = 35) was conducted, and comparative analysis was used to further explore how smartphone interactions affect delivery riders' unsafe behaviors. Results. The questionnaire survey revealed that role stressors, smartphone inte...

Work-, lifestyle-, and health-related factors among women and men working in the emergency medical services
Conclusions. Exposure to work-related factors that might affect health was common among ambulance personnel. Lifestyle- and health-related factors were somewhat contradictory, with a low proportion reporting lifestyle-related risk factors, but a high proportion having risk factors for CVD.PMID:38632949 | DOI:10.1080/10803548.2024.2332115 (Source: International Journal of Occupational Safety and Ergonomics)

Self-Reported Disability Type and Risk of Alcohol-Induced Death - A Longitudinal Study Using Nationally Representative Data
CONCLUSIONS: The risk of alcohol-induced death varies considerably by disability type. Efforts to prevent alcohol-induced deaths should be tailored to meet the needs of the highest-risk groups, including adults with complex activity (i.e., activities of daily living - "ALDs"), vision, mobility, and ≥2 limitations. Early diagnosis and treatment of alcohol use disorder within these populations, and improved access to educational and occupational opportunities, should be considered as prevention strategies for alcohol-induced deaths.PMID:38635979 | DOI:10.1080/10826084.2024.2340993 (Source: Substance Use and Misuse)

Urinary biomonitoring of glyphosate exposure among male farmers and nonfarmers in the Biomarkers of Exposure and Effect in Agriculture (BEEA) study
Environ Int. 2024 Apr 11;187:108644. doi: 10.1016/j.envint.2024.108644. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTGlyphosate is the most widely applied herbicide worldwide. Glyphosate biomonitoring data are limited for agricultural settings. We measured urinary glyphosate concentrations and assessed exposure determinants in the Biomarkers of Exposure and Effect in Agriculture (BEEA) study. We selected four groups of BEEA participants based on self-reported pesticide exposure: recently exposed farmers with occupational glyphosate use in the last 7 days (n = 98), farmers with high lifetime glyphosate use (>80th percentile) but no use...

Factors Influencing Real-World Use of the More-Affected Upper Limb After Stroke: A Scoping Review
CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE: Existing interventions primarily focus on upper limb impairments and motor ability. Our findings suggest that interventions should also incorporate other factors: task type (unilateral vs. bilateral), hand dominance, self-efficacy, and perception of more-affected limb use as active ingredients in improving real-world use of the more-affected upper limb poststroke. We also provide recommendations to use behavioral activation theory in designing an occupation-focused intervention to augment self-efficacy and confidence in use of the more-affected upper limb in daily occupations. A Delphi Panel of People With Parkinson's Disease Regarding Responsibility: Toward a Preliminary Taxonomy
CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE: This study yielded the first consensus among PwPD regarding responsibility in occupations as well as a classification system for charting the complexity of responsibility in occupations. The occupation list we have created can be beneficial to health care professionals when providing interventions or conducting outcome assessments. Plain-Language Summary: When planning interventions for patients with Parkinson's disease, it can be helpful for clinicians to be aware of patients' perspectives regarding their sense of responsibility to perform occupations. The use of a systematic sequence of challen...
